Bad Guy Good Audio Rankings and stuff (under construction) (Part 1)

I’d vote Monarch or Variations.
Female vocals fast BPM sub focus. That’s Moondrop crowd and tuning.
If you can afford Monarch you should go with that. by all accounts a detail beast with zero speed issues

HBB already answered, and for that sample, I agree 100%.

I own Var and I don’t like it with other Collier works tho. But for that part, if that’s YOUR jam, Monarch.

Edit: try to see if you can demo first, just for the sake of fit since monarch is a bigboi

Kinda figured it would be, thanks to both of you!
I’m going to take a chance and ask Linsoul if they’d make an exception and sell me a CIEM version like they used to offer
Doubt they will tho

Good luck with CIEM request :crossed_fingers:

oh yeah, I want your take definitely @Resolution

No worries! I didn’t even sugar coat it nor hyped the Mele. I just handed it to him and asked if he would like to demo it and he did. I didn’t disturbed him by asking him all sorts of questions if he liked it or not. I just let him be with the Mele while I do my own thing and he came to his own conclusion by the end of it.

Word of mouth is one thing, but letting the IEM did all the talking and showing sure is powerful and I got to witness that.

@hawaiibadboy 's set is in the house. Thanks, once again. Will post unboxing photos in the official thread in a bit. Damn they look :fire:. Still my favourite tribid plate.

Oh boy, they slam. For the eletronic folks out there that like warmth and slam, this will most likely be your jam. Will cover that part on a review for sure.

wondering if Thieaudio will ever fill out their Legacy line up with a 6, 7 or 8?
Would love an L4 tuned set with more detail retrieval…something to kick the S8F’s arse in the $300-450 price range? one can hope.
In the meantime, loving the Timeless…just so different to anything else i have, cheers for the rec.

Your target isnt mine but its close so at least i have yours as a starting point and i can then read between the lines of your reviews…takes some of the risk out of buying blind (or should that be deaf).

Thanks for the trust.
I have it on good word that a few sets are dropping soon that fit into your post…the 2 companies.
Autumn to New Year is a big season for new stuff and discounted early 2021 stuff

Did you get to try the DX300?..dude should’ve returned the favour :man_shrugging:

Right? But that’s okay. I did myself one better and got a full hour with the DMP-Z1 all to myself. My only impressions coming out from it, the audiophile world sure is huge and I’ve only barely touched the surface.

What sort of stuff does your local store have? Might be worth seeing what others think you should try  Wish I could go into a store to demo stuff without having to make an appointment, there’s a store like 20 minutes away from me that stocks gear like the new DCA Stealth, LCD 5, CRBN and Thror but I don’t want to book an appointment to try them and kinda feel pressured into buying something when I definitely can’t afford it :joy:

Oh geez there’s so many to see. I believe I shared some of the pics in this thread before but there are a lot. Since I’m living in the asian side of the world, it’s easier to get CIEM here, especially so local warranty is fairly easy from my end.

They sell various turntables, speakers, and I didn’t know Shanling has their own somewhat DMP-Z1 equivalent called the Shanling M30. A bunch of Headphones. There’s a new headphones called SIGVA or something like that. Focal headphones, HIFIMAN, Fearless IEMs, Shozy, Audeze, 64 Audio and many more. Oh! and of course the Elysian Acoustics Labs IEMs which Chris currently has one of them I think. Since it’s originated from where I’m at, I was able to demo some of their IEMs.

Funnily enough, this audio store was my first foray into IEM with the TFZ Exclusive 1 being my very first IEM back in 2017.

In terms of DAPs, I’m able to demo the usual Fiio, iBasso, Hiby, and some of the Cowon stuff as well which is surprisingly popular. A&K too.

I think I mentioned it before but the headphones game here is stronger than IEMs. They take their DAC game here seriously as well. They recently set up a theater room for Speakers demo as well but I didn’t went in.

Oh it also acts an audio cafe as well so I was able to chill, drink coffee and have a bite on some meals while I demo some audio gear!

Here’s their facebook if you’re interested to see - Redirecting...

There is another audio store nearer to my home and they have probably more stuff to demo, just that their space is more of an office space so there weren’t much place to sit and chill. They focused more on online platform but I can still visit them to demo certain gears if I want to.

Looks like they have a lot of nice gear, the 64a/Fir audio iems would particularly interest me personally

How does demoing daps normally go? They let you use your microsd to test your own library?

Planning to go and do some gear auditioning at a shop myself sometime soon. Mainly to try out some Hifimans, Audeze, DanClarck etc but also some IEMs they have. Headphones kinda piqued my interest after the Oracle blew my mind and I used to not be interested in headphones

DMP-Z1 is a beast.
Cost as much as a car though.

Going to switch my compare vid

EE LX and EVO are just too damn similar

It seems the Evo is often compared to the LX and the Odin. But at the end I start thinking I should have tried the ie900 rather than the Evo for the “bass” set.

Yeah, switched out LX because I did a vid last night which I won’t publish because it is $1000 extra for the BcD and poor packaging
Plus the new 3 are quite different and exceptional so if you ask for exceptional money you play with other exceptional gears )
