Where da bass? On the new and improved MOONDROP Aria?
That may be the only dongle DAC I would like to put my hands on (apart from maybe Xduoo Link2 Bal and RU-6). But the price of good stack is kind of boomer.
Any plans on getting that from your side?
Im not totally sure itll sound that way?
The 2-3k gain on the og is above bass by a few db but dioko is roughly level so might not sound quite as bright…not that i find the 7hz bright but i understand some do.
Be very interested on your thoughts if you get to compare them…id be interested in how that extra sub bass works (or not)…count me intrigued.
I can’t use any dongle without fwd/back an play/pause buttons. But the questyle… I may make an exception…
Most likely, but need to sort my finances first. Might have done something stupid these days
Me too…secret for now. PS was NOT Olina, lol.
That’s a good T-shirt for everyone in this hobby to be wearing sometimes
Yojimbo was the inspiration for Eastwood’s/Sergio Leone’s
A Fistfull of Dollars
Central character playing both sides to the middle.
If I were explaining this hobby ( really any and all are same)
I’d use these films
The buyers are the “Baxters”
The influencers are the “Rojo’s”
Clint is the Companies/Sellers
His character is in it to win it and not to lose.
The Baxters and Rojo’s are in it to win it too but, they …
forget the golden rule.
I should do a vid just to get a chance to talk about Spaghetti Westerns and Kurosawa.
Someday.
I get a huge thrill from Ennio Morricone soundtracks!
Classic CLASSIC stuff
When I saw the graph on it, I was assuming you would hate it. The original was OK-ish for rock, and very good if I was listening to the right soundtracks or something with an orchestra in it. It is still a Moondrop set, so the cable connectors will short out in four months on 1/4 of them.
@hawaiibadboy any chance you are gonna review the Penon Vortex? There is a lot of talk over at head-fi that seems to put it above the Serial.
I will probably buy it tomorrow.
I wish they would settle on a scale so i can get my mind around it better.
Guess I’ll be kinda blind buying.
Whew you would love the Vortex I am thinking.
The treble is unlike any DD treble I know, EST level.
The Serial does have more sub bass but the Vortex certainly doesn’t roll off prematurely - meanwhile texture and control of all bass that is present is something to be reckoned with.
If you had to pick the bass between the vortex and serial which would you choose?
Yeah it’s been hard to find a good graph of it
Very very limited listening, it came just before my family started to wake and we have a visitor here today too. So literally bathroom breaks.
Serial for sub bass, it would take more notes to compare mid bass but I think the Vortex takes it.
I wonder if @nymz is gonna grab a pair. I know he has had bad luck with Penon but this sounds like a killer single DD which is right up his alley
From what I know if his taste… I think he really should. It’s the best I’ve heard one DD handle top to bottom.
Impressive as the Vernus is (and it has different goals) I easily prefer the Vortex overall. The Vernus is the kind of single DD that has a remarkable sweet spot that it tails of from to either side. It is absolutely nuts that the Vortex covers the range that it does so well. Highs like EST, top class mids, down to a very decent bass extension (not as full or far as bass focused sets) BUT every inch of bass that it does cover, it covers with TOTL aplomb. (You can take my TOTL with the caveat that I’ve never heard anything that has higher than $1000 MSRP, but I’ve heard dozens with quite a few up in the 600-1000 range at this point.)
The price of the Vortex will mislead people, at $300+ people would be very content and impressed and making comparisons to other pricey sets without batting an eye.
