Most people in the hobby, even the experienced people, don’t plot out what their goals are. Do you wanna spend $500 this year? Do you want to collect transducer types? Do you want different tunings for mood or use case?
Nah, most people jump from hype train to hype train because someone said this is the new hotness. In reality, most sets are sidegrades to each other, relative to use case, preference, comfort and convenience, and budget.
People gotta stop chasing and actually decide what they want, if they want to see things change in a meaningful way.
We vote with our wallets, so you have to actually put thought into what you’re buying
Goes for most hobbies realy. Its what drives capitalism.
Having said that, new material and driver tech can reap huge improvements and the changes we have seen over just the last few years would suggest keeping up with the latest and greatest can be a worth while persuit.
Personally im trying to ignore FOMO cos im very happy with what i have and probably wont buy a new iem untill solid state MEMS drivers appear as the next big thing and only then if i think it can improve on what i have but each to their own.

I only meant to make an account to thank hbb and twaddle off but truth be told I don’t come across many audio people. It’s been interesting to see I share personality traits with some others I see around here such as @toecutter. I show my friends and family iem’s, i try to talk about music but I have found it’s not a priority for most people. Actually no one i grew up with. Thought it was just me being weird for a long time. Getting obsessive about the details, speaking up at work when you see things…Personally I’ve found it has come with a heavy cost and I’m guessing it may have for some of you.

I personally can’t justify buying a new flagship set until a full-range xMEMs (Cypress) IEM comes to market for me to try. A tweeter off of a $150 set (Ace 2) smoking everything I’ve tried in the kilobuck range solely for treble detail still boggles the hell out of me. Too bad the rest of the TWS IEM is subpar.
Should mention I’m a bit of a detail-head, so not everyone is going to prioritize that aspect.
