Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews (A Million views?) Part 3/4

Not big into sources personally, but always love reviews and would be great to hear yours
So go for it, that’s very cool, and might become something you enjoy doing

Aegis unboxing experience is very good, those pouch inserts are so nice. But same as with Legion, I don’t like the looks at all, just doesn’t hit for me personally.
Btw @hawaiibadboy, that rectangular card in Aegis box is just a fridge magnet I believe hehe. So you won’t find anything cool shining a UV on it

Once I think the current stock is out, I think Aries will potentially have an option without the faceplate if you want to go with a more conventional look. I believe so, anyways. He’s also still working on the flagship above Legion so we’ll see what else they roll out with. Expect more around probably SoCal CanJam or something

Options like that are thoughtful, good for him
It’s a cool design idea and good implementation, so it’s purely subjective on my part. But damn that case is nice, I wish Origin would come with something like that instead of the puck lol.
While that puck definitely feels premium and has grown on me a bit, I can’t get over the fact that it’s too small. Let’s be real, gear like that rarely leaves home, so case portability shouldn’t be a priority imo. As I’d imagine people would use a different carry case for travel anyway, something more practical than an alcantara puck lol.
FlipEars should consider selling those cases separately and without branding hehe. The best I’ve seen in a while

Well, I have a LOT to say about these sources!

Regarding Legion and Aegis looks - I think they look awesome! I personsally enjoy Aegis more :shield::sunglasses:

But I can understand the sentiment of ATBGE (awful taste but great execution) and for some that really applies here I think.

Youtube recommended me the following vid today, which touches on a topic we’re all familiar with:

The relevant part starts at the (approx.) 6 minute mark. He talks about the supposed advantages (small scale production) of ‘custom’ manufacturers. If that’s true, there’s no reason for those manufacturers not to start naming and describing their products, at least in my opinion. Curious to hear what you guys think.

I just watched it all.
He handled that very well.
No wild claims. Just explanation to the point he is confident in saying.
I work under Linsoul’s umbrella to an extent since before they were Linsoul.
I’m glad that I banged that drum and a guy from Linsoul replied.
I have not had any discusion about drivers with Linsoul, if it’s not my collab it’s not my business.
I read what’s on the box or website like everyone else…and I rant.

Much obliged as always.

No argument there. It’s definitely a balanced argument (and also understandable from their POV) though I still (as mentioned) feel your arguments remain valid. Maybe in time when the industry matures a bit. After all, it’s still relatively young in many ways.

PS I’m pretty sure that your vids are what prompted the production of this video :+1:

PS Too many times the word ‘argument’ in a single sentence :person_facepalming:

Date day with the Mrs… I’m out drinking, eating BBQ and going to see Hamilton. No training this weekend!

For what it’s worth I bought “clone” drivers to play with and in some metrics they performed better than the (Knowles specifically) driver they’re based on.

Somewhat of a tangent, would y’all be fine with brands using non Knowles and Sonion BAs if the factory they came from was named? Is it the fact you can’t pinpoint the exact model being used or is it more of a brand name thing? I suspect answers may vary from person to person.

Off time is important as well. Have fun!

I would say the fact that the ‘clone’ ones were able to outperform the Knowles units shows they have something that could be of value (unless it violates someone else’s IP of course). I agree with HBB’s argument that you should know what you’re paying for. It helps to evaluate what you’re paying for (and if it’s worth the markup in expensive sets).

This is my stance as well. If you can tell me the specs or who made them, and that OEM can provide things like variance and other specs, then I’m happy. It’s the ‘leap of faith’ that’s in bad faith IMO; if you’re proud enough to sell a product and market it, be transparent. Customers can always decide what’s worth it or not on their own.

To be perfectly honest. I kinda missed that on the Kiwi Ears Etude video’s when it comes to ‘custom’ BA’s.
You did make your point indirectly on the latest Z collab and the DD & BC are the focal points on the Etude anyway. (and it’s in the same price category as the Z collab anyway. $119 is a pretty sharp price.)
So I don’t think I’ll lose any sleep over it.

I still firmly believe that they should start naming the clone/custom drivers. Build up rep. Work on the higher RMA cases. Become a viable alternative to Sonion and Knowles.

I wonder if the reason they don’t do that might be partially due to the fact that a lot of those smaller companies are probably co-located (geographically) with the manufacturers. As in, they know one another and don’t feel a need to actively build up their brand because they’ll sell most of their products locally anyways.

While that may be true, a lot of the times I bet they would just buy a big batch (pay less for each one) and then reuse the same driver for other models.

Would be more ok as IMO I just want more transparency. However, the higher priced you go the less I want to see these non-knowles/sonion brands…

Probably has to do with wanting to avoid being sued or something since they are using tech from Knowles. (they have gotten sued but doesnt seem to be doing much in reality.)

The IP infringement is more likely than not the main reason, completely agree.
