Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews (A Million views?) Part 3/4

I’d love to hear what that set is once it’s in your hands. Sounds like something special if there’s a wait for those parts.

There’s a handful of units in the wild for demo purposes (I know Elise has one of each, not sure who else has ‘em) but I definitely went in on the more neutral of the two (Prisma Lumen, as opposed to the Prisma Lux) since it’s something I think is a better fit for my collection. Most people that have demo’d them already prefer the Lux for its more exciting tuning (more U-shaped version with the same mids) but both are quite capable given they share the same config. There should be a lot more news and impressions as we get closer to release (our @veebee is making sure everything is perfect before shipping) but I will gladly put my impressions out there once it’s in hand and I have a feeling I may fold and grab a Lux as well hehe.

I really like your new video! I hope a lot of people see it, and particularly new people to the hobby. It can not be repeated to often, there really isn’t any prize tag on musical enjoyment, both ways! If you can afford it, sure, use a million, but you don’t need to if enjoying music is the point:blush:. I guess most of us one here also have a lot of fun with the gear, new stuff we don’t really need, but still buy:sweat_smile:. “I use music to listen to gear”:joy:. That can be a hobby too:grimacing:

There are not many new patents in this hobby
There is not much growth beyond growing bank account balances by sharing less and less information with customers

It’s a hustle and a group of people who used to say they would change the hobby and kick the graph deniers and objective data ignorance people to the curb

Then they made some money and they sold out

Cables are a big deal
Transparency is NOT a big deal
They were always lying hustlers inside. It just took some money to break their moral compass :compass:

Which means they never had one

I had already known that
Now you folks should too

Earphones with secret internals
Amps with secret power out rating

What is that orange cable on the right?

Yongse Stormrise, bought it for the looks and I thought it would be heavy and stiff because of its thickness, but it is actually very flexible and not so heavy to be uncomfortable. Hell, it is actually more comfy than any of my XINHS cables, so as the other Yongse on the picture, the SpectraX.

@Ohmboy

You were kinda right.
I dont think cables and being expensive= improvement but cable rolling is a good idea to find the synergy.
If anyone buys the Canpur, definitely cable roll. One of the more obvious examples of a stock cable being less than optimal pairing

Given the previous discussions concerning cables, what made you change your mind (or perhaps a better question is: wherein lies the synergy)? I need to buy a replacement cable for one of my sets so I’m really curious to hear what your thoughts are.

I still don’t think expensive cables = good. It’s a scam

But the resistance of some cables has better synergy with some iem.
The stock Canpur cable is ass and the 1st one I switched to, the TRN Whale shark…sounded better. Not bass impact, it simply sounded less veiled.
That cable is stock for a $130 IEM

Totally agree.

100% agree with that too.

I can’t explain it scientifically but I do trust my ears. My ears do notice slight differences when I swop cables. I don’t make or sell cables so I don’t have a dog in the fight it’s just a personal thing, if folks think swopping cables makes no difference then that’s cool too, I’ve never thought the need to defend my opinion on this because it’s just an opinion and everyone has the right to theirs :victory_hand:& :musical_notes:

Already had a feeling it would be the resistance. It is disappointing that they decided to go with a sub par cable for such an expensive set though.

You can make a case that its not sub par but rather synergistic to what they wanted to achieve. The fact it tilted the sound off for HBB and his preference does not make it good or bad in general

That could definitely be the case but something like this will probably make people want to demo it first before buying it (which is not possible for most I think seeing how few brick and mortar resellers they have). Then again, at that price, demoing first is in general a good idea IMO.

While an ohm or two may exist between the connectors (the wire) the more likely source of resistance are the ends. A quick swipe with an iso alcohol wipe will do the trick. Insert and remove, swipe again, repeat to clean the internal connections.

While biases can’t be discounted, sighted, etc. I’ve never found enough difference with cables to be relevant. Highly curated EQ profiles are vastly more impactful in my experience but I certainly don’t discount anyone that prefers one cable over another and I 100% agree that $ has nothing to do with it.

Ergonomics and looks matter more and looks not much.

I’m really enjoying the AO Ra. It’s cable not so much. Just doesn’t seem to get out of the way.

Completely agree, I don’t worry about the looks either (not even where the shells are concerned tbh).

Been over 10 days now since they “expedited the issue to the manufacturer”. They just sent me this same message for a 2nd time after I asked for an update 1 week after hearing nothing back.
