Canuck Audioholics Anonymous CAA Reviews & Fun Banter

That might be the only phone remaining that has both a memory card slot and a 3.5mm jack without having outdated specs or an older Android version.

I can share my experience as well. After using my unit non-stop for 8 hours with max brightness, Bluetooth, and WiFi, it felt warm. By warm, I mean it was normal to the touch in my hand, but I had to put it against my face to really notice it. As @ToneDeafMonk mentioned, there was a small batch that ran hot, but Hiby addressed the issue, replaced those DAPs, and made an announcement. In comparison, my phone gets much hotter than the R4 after just an hour of use.

From my experience, I can say that the R4 is a one-and-done device for most people. While you could upgrade to something better in the future, diminishing returns hits hard beyond this point, and the improvements will be minor. The R4 is snappier than another DAP I was testing, which cost over $1500. The open Android system and the speed at which the music library loaded and played were much faster on the R4. Additionally, it has exclusive Hiby sound adjustments, Hiby Link, great battery life, excellent Class A sound, SRC bypass, and enough power for most IEMs and even some headphones.

I’m not sure how they manage to make money with the R4, I never quite understood that part.

DYNAQUATTRO and Supermix 4 came in today.

Listening to the Binary tonight and gone through most of my sources now onto the Astell&Kern Kann Max high gain 100/150 volume I will say one thing about these they need POWER to sound correct.

Good as I’ve just ordered one to take to CanJam London as my DX300 batteries are kinda wack and on the way out (will be sending off for replacements) it’ll be interesting to see how those two compare

The problem is they’re pretty pricey and they haven’t appeared in my T-Mobile store for upgrading my phone yet lol

Yeah, sony phones are kinda of a niche for those that want the sd card, 3.5mm and the shutter button for the camera.

As an owner of the Xperia 5V, i cant say I be coming back to another sony…

I honestly would buy it if it was in my T-Mobile store upgrade list but noooo it’s always Samsung and Apple lol

I assume you would look at the 1V or 1VI?

I skipped the 1 serie cuz I cant handle a large phone like that so the 5V was the perfect size, other candidates for me were the Asus Zenfones (also has 3.5mm but no sd card) or the google pixels.

Regarding the hiby r4… Can anyone confirm if it supports flac audio files? And if it outputs lhdc Bluetooth for those random wireless headsets that use lhdc instead of ldac

Flac and DSD/ DDF no problems not sure about that other wireless codec?

Check the developer mode settings and it should list the codecs it supports.

I’ll figure it out as it goes

For now, I’m still trying to find if I’m going R4 or if there’s something with bonkers battery life lol

Wish daps used eink displays, crazy battery life with those panels compared to regular LCDs.

I hope that after the EU replaceable battery law comes in effect in 2027 that we might see the comeback of 3.5mm as well. (lots of hopium here lol.)

My upcoming iBasso review for the DC07 PRO will sound crazy , I think it sounds better than the DX180 DAP its $199 so it better.

Talking with Paul from iBasso he said the amout of tech R&D that went into this tiny dongle whould sell for $400.

Its nuts.
