Yeah I would go with the soekris then, it’s very solid and sounds great imo
Then I will look more into it
That’s also pretty good too, but it is more specialty product, it’s more analytical leaning for an r2r, pretty nice but just know the sound signature.
Ok. Interesting. I just was looking at some metrum models and specs.
So how would the cheaper Metrum Flint compare to the Soekris 1321?
I have not heard the flint unfortunately, but the 1321 is fairly neutral and actually a more relaxed sounding dac, more relaxed in it’s presentation and isn’t really harsh whatsoever. If I go off of the amethyst the amethyst is a decent bit more detail forward (slightly more detailed) and can have some edge at times. The 1321 is more just neutral and relaxed in those regards not really going detail forward but not really lacking detail
Damn, your description doesn’t help me narrow it down…it only makes me want to buy both, lmao.
Well I don’t know if the flint is similar to the other metrum lol. Well both are great lol so it comes down to what you can actually get and what sound you prefer lol
Hmmmm, I may still be leaning towards the Soekris 1321
For me what I find myself enjoying I would be looking for either a 1321 or a used bifrost 2 in this price range (I would personally go for the bifrost 2 knowing what I like)
Well since its performance at reconstructing signal amplitudes is based on using precise resistance values all throughout the ladder, it makes sense that even a small change in resistance due to temperature would directly affect performance. And in that case they would have tuned it to work best in warm state (which is maintained longer) rather than cold.
Thanks for the explanation
Is there a budget verson of the Ares Denafrips R2R less than $400? Something musical.
That’s mainly the massdrop airist, I would personally look for a used bifrost multibit or soekris dac1321
You can find a Airist/Massdrop R2R DAC for that price.
Jinx!
.
Zeos just came out with a review on the Aune x8, any thoughts on that one? Compared to Topping e30?

No bluetooth and too few fixed outs for me.
That makes me wonder - I have been using the Audio GD 11 R2R dac part as my actual dac, but its really annoying to switch RCA cables all the time since it has only one output. Also a need for bluetooth has come into my life.
I obviously cannot get R2R with those features for under, lets say 500 usd, but what could fit the bill?
Atleast two fixed outputs
Balanced if possible
Bluetooth
DSD256
Cheers!
New to Audiophile world, what is a ‘fixed out’?
it means that it puts out a signal as a “fixed” volume, not an adjustable volume so you’d have to rely on a preamp or an integrated amp or powered monitors to adjust the volume.
Conversely, variable out… take a guess!?!
