I’m sort of feeling this way with the TR-X00 purple heart. I know there are “better” headphones but I just love the sound of these. The bass is thick and rich but never bloated (at least now that they are broken in) with GREAT slam and detail while being able to reach down into the 10-15hz region. The mids are still rather forward for a v-shaped sound signature and have no issues. The highs are perfect. No sibilance unless it’s in the song and even then it never hurts. The detail retrieval is great with a good amount of air frequencies. Nothing ever feels like it’s taking away from anything else. I have yet to hear a genre that I don’t enjoy with these. Maybe it’s because I played tuba in middle school and high school so I am used to the orchestral sound having some more bass, but even when listening to classical/jazz I never feel like the bass is overbearing.
Despite how much I love these headphones I still would like to at least try something in the $1000+ range like a ZMF, focal, audeze, higher end Fostex, etc. But to be honest that is only really curiosity and not really a desire for something “better”.
To slightly derail this topic, I saw a question on another forum board that interests me.
If you won a drawing that awarded you with $10k that you must spend on audio gear, what would you spend it on? Please assume you currently own no gear and you can spend it on headphone or speaker gear.
oooh, sorry. I thought you were referring to the SMSL D10 DAC. you’re talking about energizers. I would upgrade to the SRM-323 or the SRM-232s it replaced. way more power than the D10.
No problem, I was replying to a guy from March. I’d like to upgrade to a 323 but it’s to big. I’m going to be moving into a much smaller place in a couple months and if anything I need to downsize my setup. I’m totally happy with the Koss energizer but was wondering if there would be an improvement with the D10
