Do you wish you had an endgame headphone?

Do you think you will every reach endgame?

That’s probably not a bad thing, because if you invest in some volatile or risky stocks without thinking it could end up being not the greatest lol

No, because I would just be chasing something that doesn’t exist lol. I will reach a point where I am satisfied and won’t want to upgrade (I already know I have reached that for my main listening for pleasure speaker setup), but that hasn’t happened yet. Also I still greatly enjoy my lower end gear too.

A fair amount of people are surprised to hear that my most used headphones are actually the ksc75

I did invest this company called GDS sounds like JDS but not but the pay out was great, just look it on google also he’s my parent’s friend so you know there was a sense of trust.

I can easily see myself pursuing higher and higher end gear as I continue and likely will not find that endgame. I’ve never even really considered myself as looking for the perfect headphone because I don’t really think it exists. Different sound sigs for different genres and all that. I mean already I see myself thinking “eh 500 is cheap for headphones when 5 or 6 years ago I would pay over like 80. I think for some it just kinda builds. Like I’ve mentioned before too I kinda see myself as a collector of many things. I’d have to absolutely hate a pair to return or sell them.

I think for me, and many, it’s not about the perfect headphone but just looking for more and more that a different, in any way. Frequencies imaging stage, or even just looks. I think so much of the excitement also comes from the testing and comparing and learning of a new pair. I get so excited just unboxing or even waiting for a new pair to come in. So I think it’d be hard to let go of that aspect of it. I think I’d have a better chance of finding an “endgame” or even 1 endgame solid and one endgame tube, as I appreciated amps and dacs but I don’t find them as exciting as the headphones themselves. And I definitely don’t go through as much. I’ve now owned 3 amps and 2 dacs (3 if you count the one in my jot) but in the same amount of time about 20 plus headphones.

TL:DR answer;
With many hobbies it’s all about the “hunt”. I get excited about finding something elusive or a good deal or just the anticipation of the next level or item. Hell, truth is many times I don’t get past the initial unboxing . Once the “hunt” is over and I have what I was craving in my grubby little hands many times depending on what the item/idea is my mind is already thinking of something else and yet again stimulated by the “hunt”.

I’m not saying this is “normal” or even healthy behavior and by no means am I encouraging this type of behavior, it’s just what I personally crave. Been like this since I was a youngster (teen) and I have only gotten worse in the past 30 years. Meh, it is what it is, but to me the “hunt” drives my actions.

I have learned to eventually get to each and every “thing” whether it’s an item or idea…eventually. Life is short and there aren’t enough hours in the day sometimes, so I do push myself to maximize my time.

Short answer to your question, nope.

I’m sort of feeling this way with the TR-X00 purple heart. I know there are “better” headphones but I just love the sound of these. The bass is thick and rich but never bloated (at least now that they are broken in) with GREAT slam and detail while being able to reach down into the 10-15hz region. The mids are still rather forward for a v-shaped sound signature and have no issues. The highs are perfect. No sibilance unless it’s in the song and even then it never hurts. The detail retrieval is great with a good amount of air frequencies. Nothing ever feels like it’s taking away from anything else. I have yet to hear a genre that I don’t enjoy with these. Maybe it’s because I played tuba in middle school and high school so I am used to the orchestral sound having some more bass, but even when listening to classical/jazz I never feel like the bass is overbearing.

Despite how much I love these headphones I still would like to at least try something in the $1000+ range like a ZMF, focal, audeze, higher end Fostex, etc. But to be honest that is only really curiosity and not really a desire for something “better”.

Kinda wish I could afford a shangrila sr or aperion estat

Go for a Sonoma m1 instead, they can be found used for reasonable. I still really think it’s great

I just wish they sold a version without the built in dac for cheaper. I just dont need it.

To slightly derail this topic, I saw a question on another forum board that interests me.
If you won a drawing that awarded you with $10k that you must spend on audio gear, what would you spend it on? Please assume you currently own no gear and you can spend it on headphone or speaker gear.

You kinda need the dac because the entire thing is DSP’d, it uses digital correction (not a bad think whatsoever)

I’ll take the Tia Trio please

Yeah, I watched it this morning, the guy from Audio46 said (and this guy has Lots of cans to try at his work) that his favourite was the Dt990. Lol.

I always watch Gutenberg’s videos, always cool, always smiling.

No such thing as endgame…end-wallet is a real thing though.
