šŸ”· Drop THX Panda

I wasnā€™t even giving that much credit. I would be much more impressed if they let you replace the battery. Then thatā€™s when I really pay attention cause that is my biggest concern with Bluetooth daily driver headphones and basically determine the life cycle of the thing

via measurements from a guy on SBAF.

Looks like a Focal Elegia-ish frequency response.

Yes, thatā€™s just the frequency response, not the thousand other specs that make it sound different. :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you know if there is a measurement for the elegia from the same rig? That would be interesting to see

ill try and find out, the guy has a lot of gear.

edit: same guy same setup

i may pick up a panda down the road as my only portable headphone for the once in a blue moon i need one. ill wait and see until real world headsets go out and people speak their minds. i am in no rush to get one, i got a pair of bt earbuds from anker that work well enough when the need arises. but i do like headphones much more then iem/earbuds

edit: and the response curve looks interesting enough, it could be a decent headphone.

they also have a boom mic option on indigogo. it is wired tho, so i guess they expect these to be decent enough for gaming as well? :man_shrugging:

For all the shade Iā€™m throwing, IF they stick to the review models, they will definitely have a winner here imo

Iā€™ve heard that the Panda is utilizing the Oppo PM-3 drivers. Has anybody been able to confirm this?

From the Indiegogo page:

Worldā€™s first headphone with Drop planar-ribbon drivers (derived from Oppo Digitalā€™s PM Series)

Also, hereā€™s my stupid copy-pasting again :stuck_out_tongue:
Elegia is grey + orange, Panda is green + red.

That is the Oppo PM-3. Looks very similar until the treble region. Oppo went out of business last year, so their proprietary trademarks no longer apply. Iā€™m curious about this because if true, the PM-3 were a very nice sounding headphone, but a little warm in the treble. If they did take that tech and enhanced the treble extension, it would make a ton of sense.

Seems to be what they did, all without DSP too.

Nice, so itā€™s confirmed. These may just end up sounding decent. Still wont buy on Indiegogo as Iā€™ve been let down too many times by crowdfunding projectsā€¦but this confirmation is great news IMO.

Iā€™m pretty sure they said at the Listening Day event that they acquired the design & whatnot from Oppo, so itā€™s pretty much a direct successor rather than a copycat.

EDIT: just a minute too late, but thanks @elira for direct confirmation.

Its probably too late in the development of these, but it would be awesome if it could:

  1. do BT and wired input at the same time, like the Arctis 3 Bluetooth.
  2. or if it could do wired out to another headphone/IEM via the 3.5 jack like the Marshall Major III BT
  3. but It would be on another level of elite if it could do both.

Iā€™m curious on what use cases this would provide?

The first scenario would mostly be a gamer thing; connect wired to a game controller and still be able to do voice chat, listen to music, or take calls via BT. You could also be wired to your DAP and paired to your phone, something useful to me especially since phones are ditching 3.5mm. The arctis 3 BT and the mayflower arc mk2 both allow you to have 2 sources at the same time.

The second one would be to share your music or whatever youā€™re listening to while paired to BT with someone else wired to the panda. Maybe you could even connect it to an AUX port of speakers that dont have BT. :man_shrugging:

Just extra features that other devices have that would be interesting to include and would make the price premium easier to swallow.
