I do have a type-c port on the i/o of my PC. Do you think adding one of those headphone dongles would hold me out until I get a better dac for the Asgard?
I mean, I would personally just wait until you get a proper dac imo
I mean sure, but there’s the apple dongle for like $8. I’m still deciding whether to get the 4490 or multibit dac card for the Asgard, and I got awhile until I raise enough money to buy either.
I mean I would go for the multibit if you can, but the 4490 ain’t bad either. If one of those dongles is like 8 bucks then yeah perhaps do that
I’d love to grab the multibit tbh. The dongle is only meant to get rid of most of the noise I hear from relying on the line out. Once I get the money for the multibit, I’ll stop using the dongle altogether.
Gotcha yeah I didn’t know what dongle you were talking about, that’s not bad price to stop the noise
Oh I see. Sorry for not being very specific about it lol
Got the dongle set up, but there’s still some noise. Grabbing an extension cord to plug the amp into a different outlet seemingly fixes the noise. However, there is no practical way I could keep it there. Are there any other options that I have to fix this problem?
I would say something like this does well
That being said they do affect sound quality, so I would just live with the noise imo
Actually, I may get the extension cord thing to work. I found another plug that might work well, but later down the line I’ll have to get a shorter one and with a flat plug since it’s positioned right in front of the bed. That being said my stuff is due for a clean up and reorganization. It’s all a mess of cables behind my tv set and pc lol
You are not alone lol, everything is a mess for me
So something weird happened. Might have something to do with that ground loop you mentioned earlier. My folks have this little adapter which converts a non grounded plug to a standard grounded plug. We plugged it into the power strip which has all of my PC devices connected, and had the amp plugged into the adapter. Once I powered it on, I maxed out the gain and volume in idle, and there was no noise whatsoever when connected to the dongle. Furthermore, trying the PC’s line out produced a extremely faint hissing noise. Alongside that, I noticed that the volume knob didn’t have to go nearly as far to get the 4XXs loud enough for me to listen to. I’m so confused as to how the ground affected all this, but I’m just as relieved that the problem is solved. Will be looking forward to see how a proper DAC can change the sound quality, but as for the noise, it does not seem to be of any more concern. as far as I’m aware of.
Perfect, that’s good that it’s all sorted out now
