First setup advice: headphones, DAC & AMP

How would that setup look like with the budget headphone setup I was looking at? I’d still have to grab the Topping D10 and Atom stack either way, right?

Well, you could actually use your interface as a dac with it’s line outs (if you were to go this route I would recommend the scarlett solo more because it has a better dac then the um2). So you would get an interface and use it for a dac for the atom

Ah, I see, so there wouldn’t be a reason for the D10 if I went with the interface. Honestly, chances are I don’t really have to grab that interface, since it’s not like I have the setup to do any actual work with it, along with my use case being the most casual one could think of lmao

I mean yeah, if you are just talking with friends, a snowball should give you no problems and be more than adequate

Yeah that sounds about right. I feel like I’m better off focusing more on the headphone setup. Also, I was thinking about some potential options for the headphones assuming I can save up some more. The Audioquest Nighthawks look really neat, but I wonder what good Planar options are out there for that price or slightly higher.

Honestly though a good recording environment can go a longer way than a mic and interface upgrade. But I mean running a Scarlett and a ATH 2020 is a pretty good setup

But if your not streaming or recording yourself mic upgrades are pretty pointless.

Yeah, the environment is a big thing to consider and can make leaps and bounds in differences. But if you are either not able or willing to optimize your environment, getting a mic that can better remove that environment can help

Lol me and my overkill mics I just sometimes use for recording on discord. All so people can hear my dumb voice in higher quality

I honestly want to get into streaming but one thing is I’m not very good at keeping schedules right now and second my Huntsman keyboard is gonna make things real unbearable with how loud they are. I mean, my Snowball is literally right next to the blasted thing, and I have no way of mounting it anywhere else right now.

Yikes, perhaps consider getting a cheap mic arm to reduce desk noise and get it closer to what you actually want to transmit (your voice I would assume)

I’d do that, but everything’s really cramped as is, adding an arm would make things much more intrusive. Honestly, I’d have to wait until I can switch things up in my own room and whatnot, and when I actually have more cash on hand. I’ll get to it eventually but it’s gonna be awhile until that happens.

Ah, yeah that would be a reasonable thought lol. Mics can be a good investment for some and not for others. But I do love getting to switch stuff up once in a while because of the mics I have for my studio work (even though it’s completely pointless)

And that’s pretty neat lmao
Again, I’d love to get into streaming, but I got a whole other bunch of things that I have to do right now, so getting that ball rolling isn’t that high on the priority list right now.

For the people I know who do streaming, tbh as long as you have a decent setup, the main thing is actually learning to entertain and maintain a schedule with lots of persistence and daily activity. That seems to be the hard part. You could have the best gear out there but still not be successful streaming if you don’t provide a reason for people to actually show up or stay

Yeah, I can agree with you on that. If I can get the equipment part out of the way right now, then if anything, I can focus more on improving myself in regards to being entertaining and maintaining a schedule and all that.

Well I mean it already sounds like you already have most of the equipment you would need (but I don’t know about your pc situation and schedule)

Right, I got the list and all, I got a decent PC to get that working (wall mounted TV really works as a second monitor though the scaling is pretty weird), so really it’s the schedule and figuring out what works in being entertaining.

Yeah, and you also should start to differentiate yourself in a meaningful way, so that’s something to do as well (whatever that may be)

Yeah, sounds about right to me.
I mentioned earlier about waiting a bit longer to save more for headphone choices, I was wondering if there are any planars that would sound a little more fun than the 4XX. I was looking at the Thieaudio Phantoms, or something that isn’t Planar, like the Nighthawks.
