did you do the cable mod your self? Where did you buy the 3.5 sockets?
I really like them.
The comfort of the stock pads is ok but these are way more comfortable.
Soundwise I didnĀ“t compared them back to back but I donĀ“t feel like something is way off.
shipibo describe them as
They were designed with the aim to reproduce original Grado L-cush sound as closely as possible, but they still donāt sound identical. Compared to L-cush, shipibo.audio Earpads have a slight bump in the lows ā between 1 and 2 dB from around 80 Hz to around 250 Hz, and a noticeable dip in the mids ā between 3 and 4 dB from around 2 kHz to around 3.5 kHz. These changes can be heard, but they donāt take away the famous Grado sound signature away from the headphones. They also push the driver away from the ear slightly offering plenty of air and separation.
yeah, I did the cable mod by myself.
I followed along this video Grado Hemp detachable cable mod.
For the sockets I used these kind of 3.5mm stereo sockets.
To fit them you have to grind the holes in the cups from Ć5mm to Ć6mm.
Did you pull the driver out like in the video?
yes, I used a headbed of a 3d printer to heat it up.
But I didnĀ“t have to push nearly as hard as he in the video had to.
My drivers came loose really easy.
I donāt feel comfortable to pull out the drivers on mine.
Yeaā¦thatās a tall order for any modding!
My first post on this forum. Have had the hemps for just over a week. These things should come with some sort of warning. They are more addictive than marijuana. I have not done anything in my spare time since I got them but listen to music. Most other headphones I have tried end up being somewhat fatiguing after an hour or two but with these ones I can just lean back and enjoy the music. The comfort for my head is perfect both with stock pads and the Geekria ones. Most headphones for me put pressure at a point just beneath my ear and can give me some crazy headaches so slightly sore ears now and then for me is pure bliss!
Anyways this thread was a very helpful read to help make a purchase decision so thank you all.
I love the sound of the Hemps. Iāve been enjoying them for several months now. It has be curious what other headphones that have a similar sound signature would be considered a upgrade over the hemps if you wanted to move up?
How did you attach those ZMF oval pads? Just stuck them over stock.
Also did they sound any good?
Yepp, just over the stock pads. It sounds mostly stock, far away and a little bit more V shaped to my ears. But omg the comfort.
Need an opinion folks. I just got into Grados after putting them off for so long and instantly figured out why people love them so much. I picked up the SR80X & SR225X a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed the SR225. I just put in an order for the SR325X and GW100 (for mobile use) today. Would it be worth it to pick up the Hemps as well? I read the Hemps were really similar to the SR225X and there were some similarity to the GW100.
From what Iāve read the Hemps and SR325x are supposed to sound very similar, so if you are getting the SR325x then you probably donāt need the Hemps.
One thing to be aware of though is the SR325x are considerably heavier than the Hemps, so if that becomes an issue then return/sell the 325 and get the Hemps.
Thanks for helpful insight. Iām not really concerned about the weight iāve owned Audeze headphones in the past and the weight never bothered me lol.
Your neck game must be impeccable. The Hemps are so light and I never had a comfort issue with them once I switched to different pads when I owned them.
Just found this group. Had hemps for about 8 months. 325e for a couple of years, 80s for about 15 years. Gotta love the 2k hump and bass roll off, though the F pads and the new 44mm drivers tame that a lot, but Iām an ageing boomer so treble lift is welcome. Paired with JDS Element 2, the hemps are capable of some skull crushing snare rolls and yet some delicate finger vibrato, big fan.
Just been researching Harman curves, and just got some Yamahas that are supposedly very close, and have to say very impressed, and have some theories about why the Grado signature sound profile is so marmite, but thatās for another day.
Anyone tried the Dekoni pads Zeos has on these? I see people saying they prefer the stock pads more than the G cush because they find the highs to get too harsh. It depends on what your favourite cans are, what music you listen too, and how many cans you have, but thereās a workaround if you want to keep the benefits of the G cush without the harsh highs, and thatās buy an iFi DAC. I had the Ares II, and sold it, because it made the highs too harsh. The sound difference between an iFi Zen and Ares II wasnāt so big it was now worth putting up with the harsh highs and I way prefer the comfort and sound stage of the Gs. It seems the new reference series Grado cans have hemp integrated so Iām super excited to see reviews come out on those, and if they just take the sound of the Hemps and make it better somehow, those will be end game cans for sure.
Yea I picked up one of those. I am going to try it out with the Grado Hemp and see how it goes. Plus have a few other headphones (DT 880, MMX 300, Kennerton GH50, HE6se V2) as well I can test with. I am sure it will be comfy, but I will have to see if there is a sound improvement on any of them. I can share what I think about them with the Hemps when they arrive and I have had some time with them.
