đŸ”¶ HiFiMan Sundara

yeah fair enough
just speaking from my experience they really do improve quite a bit with more power
 punchier bass, better separation etc
improved on the heresy (though I’d rec the 3+ instead) from the LS as Zen as well imo so I was letting @lapzoo know because they’re all at the same price point

There’s not ANY amp that is recommended anywhere on any hifi forums I find here in Germany. I’ll go with the Hersey though nevertheless and ship it in from the US (with ridiculously high shipping and tax costs).
Still kinda unsure about using the K5 Pro as a DAC though. It’s the AK4493EQ which is built in.

What about a lake people g103s?

Already looked at this one, but

530 mW (600 Ohm) _ 850 mW (300 Ohm) _ 940 mW (200 Ohm) _ 1130 mW (50 Ohm) _ 750 mW (16 Ohm)

again fearing it might not be enough, whereas the Hersey would be plenty.

Imo it works pretty great with the sundara from my experience, it’s a pretty nice pairing, slightly warmer amp. The heresy would indeed be plenty, but I would actually push you towards the magni 3+ (or agasrd 3 if you can) if you want to go with schiit

1wpc is plenty for the sundara, you just want quality power. The k5 pro will distort when you try to push it harder, and doesn’t sound the best if you push it too hard, it’s good for the price but the g103s is a clearly higher tier amp and has more than enough for the sundara

Yeah I guess that would make sense given the much higher price. Aight, now I have something to think and do research about for the next days.
Did you actually try all of these and had a chance to compare?

M0N has tried eeeeeeverything

Yes, but not all of them side by side. I like the k5 pro for the price for what it has to offer, but imo you can get better by going a bit higher. The heresy is pretty great for the power per dollar and is very clean, but with the sundara it can be a bit too bright for my tastes. The magni 3+ offers similar performance yet is a tad smoother and is a better match with the sundara imo. The asgard 3 is a bit warmer leaning but is a step up overall compared to the magnis, it’s wider, thicker, more impactful, while giving smoothness and refinement with a nice technicality bump. The g103s is neutral with a hint of warmness, and is resolving and technical without being fatiguing, it’s very quick and refined for the price, a bit less fun than the asgard 3 but it makes up for it in technical performance.

I would say the general consensus is the asgard3. Anything less just won’t cut it. It sounds way to good with it to get an amp below a asgard3.

For what it’s worth, I have a Sundara with a G109. I think it’s an older model than e G103 but outputs around 590mw at 600ohms. I really enjoy it and have no problems with brightness. I think it does a great job. I actually bought it second hand on Mon’s recommendation. I want to try out new stuff too but for the price bracket I can afford it seems nothing comes close to this. At the highest possible volume which is way to high to listen to for more than a few seconds there is absolutely no distortion. I think we can call it clean power. I think it’s very refined.

+1 for the Asgard 3. I went from an e10k to an O2 amp to a K5 Pro to a Magni 2 / Liquid Spark to an Asgard 3.

The two most noticable upgrades were e10k to O2 and Magni 2 / Liquid Spark to Asgard 3, IMO.

I really think the Asgard 3 has great price / performance. Of course my experience is limited, because I haven’t tried anything higher priced.

module

What’s that about? I can select an inbuilt DAC?

What the module? Yeah, you can have an inbuilt dac making it a combo unit for an added cost

The difference between those two as the spark was my first amp was pretty drastic to my ears and the reason I kept the asgard 3 to begin with. I love the asgard 3 and for the price I honestly think it’s hard to be beat more so if you get a B-stock or mint condition since those are like around $150.

If you decide to go with a module I’d highly recommend the multibit card
I think the ak module would be a side grade from using the k5 pro as a dac

Not going the lake people route? Probably more bang for your buck there

There is a headphone shop in Ontario (Canada) closing down and having some great sales.
One of which is, I assume, an open box pair of Sundara’s for $330.00!

I don’t know, people seem to love the Asgard 3 more no?

I’m just curious about what the price shipped to you will be and what you could get there in comparison
the Asgard 3 has quite a bit of fanfare here partly due to its cost at $200 usd
I mean I’m not the person to ask about lake people and violectric amps but I wonder which models you could get from them for what your cost on the a3 will be.

that said I think you’ll be extremely happy if you go the asgard 3 route :man_shrugging: im more curious because I don’t know the European market

The Lake People G103-S would cost me $300 usd. I guess the Asgard 3 without DAC would cost me about the same then, shipping and everything included. What else
I can find the Fostex HP-A4, Fostex HP-A3, Ultrasone Panther, Lake People G103-P and Apogee Groove ~that pricerange.

okay cool
looks like the Asgard 3 is a solid option for you then :+1: worth that price imo

Found a used Schiit Modi 2 Magni 3 Stack
bought in 2018, is that the latest version? Good enough? Would cost me only about 200 bucks.
