I have a pair of focal shape 50s and a sub6 subwoofer

See i thought by colorless you meant they lack treble. Hmmm too analytical and bright sounding? lean?

I wouldn’t call it lean…treble is forward and bright, yes. Paired with the Soloist though, it doesn’t pierce my ears and cause fatigue…

You said you have the Shapes already right? How do they sound to you?

Ahhhh i already know how you like your sound. For reference i use the dt 1990 pros and you’d hate them but i love them. Just wish they had that freaking planar bass extension! My car system is the same except i have a subwoofer since the door speakers are more for highs and mids so i adjust as needed. The same thing i got going with the focal. Btw if you ever consider seriously this sub6 model is a beast. Not talking rumble either but you can do that of course as well.

Just to be clear the sound sig of the Shapes is NOT my preference but I still enjoy listening to them.

No sub for me…my room doesn’t allow that.

They sound to my liking honestly, but they could really benefit from a really nice dac and preamp. If you have a criticism with your soloist and rde you’d hate this audio interface i’m using man lol. I’m here cause i’m still within a return window so i don’t get stuck with it cause i’m not mixing or recording dick.

The sound is detailed. Soundstage is so good as are vocals. The low end is good but needed a lil more kick so thats why i got the focal sub6 woofer. The sound synergy i’m getting is now different with this thing. My expectations were massively exceeded since i thought subs were more a car thing. I like my treble mean and lean so the hf knob is almost all the way to the right. Resolution and spatialness could be better like i said but its being held back by this audio interface. I tried researching the best for nearfield listening for my budget and these were it really.

i was scared When i bought these since people said monitors arent really meant for casual listening but not with these at least. I considered the adams but the tweeters is like very artifact revealing. big no no

Ah , I see. Well that’s good that you like the speakers, at least…

No criticisms…with the monitors themselves, yes.

What made you settle for the shape 50s?

Yeah well i mean if you were using an audio interface like mine with the shape 50s you’d have more cirticism haha.

i have not compared the two in sound wise.
If you compare them from specs. They are very different devices.

I was initially looking for smooth-sounding speakers that were good on the desk and had XLR inputs but there were no speakers that fit the bill that weren’t monitors. The only one I found were the Buchardt A500 but that’s waaay past my budget.

Had some KEF LSX before these…didn’t like em.

Did you just straight jump to the RDE dac or did you have something prior?

KEFS are so bad. I had some bluetooth vanatoos encore ones are they were bad but the bass they enhanced was decent so it rumbled a bit. Mostly paid for the feature set but i didnt need most of that shit.

Nah I don’t think so. I think they sound great but they don’t have good user experience.

QC issues?

RME ADI-2 DAC FS 2-channel DA Converter | Sweetwater

Is it this one? Supposedly this beats the jot 2 by miles. It looks attractive too which is a bonus tbh.

Had a Project Maia preamp before RME.
I still have the Maia, will be using it in future with JBL monitors.

Yes, the very same.

Was that used with your genelecs or is that mainly a vinyl thing?

Alright just put in the order for the RME. Pumped!

Will you be using the RME as your pre-amp?

Btw, make sure you read the manual…it will be the best manual you’ve ever seen/read!

Yes i will be. What can i expect in the manual?

Very detailed and well-thought out explanations on why it was designed a certain way, as well as instructions on how to operate…it is very daunting at first, but you’ll soon realize how intuitive and well-thought-out everything is.

Manual is also available online if you want to get a head-start…
