Man the way you describe these, they certainly sound to be pretty tempting…not to mention how beautiful these look!
Just saying!
I see Kiwi Ears has another non-IEM on the way.
I have been pondering an OWS for walks and runs, and that price makes the experiment pretty cheap. The only question will be how is the bass? Much like open back headphones the typical weakness is bass quality and quantity.
No no, this type is MAJORLY worse than those in their bass. This is just a tiny step up over the bone conductor hps (shokz/aftershokz) type but even flathead earbuds will be much bassier than these.
The Dita Project M ($325) is a single dynamic driver plus one Knowles balanced armature hybrid, at 32 ohms impedance and 107 dB/mW sensitivity. After listening to them for a few days, my impressions are: neutral-bright tuning done right - not exactly my thing, but it’s well executed.
The sound signature is balanced, with treble providing extra clarity to instrument edges (e.g. guitar plucks) while maintaining smoothness. Bass performance impressed me - while light in quantity, it digs surprisingly deep with a nice thump, extending well beyond just the midbass region. In general, I still miss a bit of note weight and body in drum hits, bass lines, and low piano. The treble implementation adds emphasis to room reverb and echoes, effectively increasing the sense of space in recordings without becoming fatiguing.
The Project M provides good isolation. While this neutral-bright signature isn’t my personal preference, it’s a very satisfying implementation that should appeal to those seeking a more analytical presentation while maintaining engaging bass performance. Thanks to the AudioGeek EU tour group for the chance to try this one out!
I also very briefly tried the SoundRhyme Prado (12 BA, 4 EST), courtesy of AudioGeek EU. The bass is fun and the treble sounds good (has that est magic), tuning’s pretty relaxed, but there’s something off to my ear in the mid-range timbre that I just couldn’t get past for a $1.8k set. Not really a set for me.
The project M… I’m sort of curious to hear it, because I like my single DDs to be at least a little bright (EN1000, HS1670SS, and a really cool surprise lately, BQEYZ Frost) however…
- The number of them turning up on classifieds, for lower and lower amounts is disproportionate. I check classifieds way, way too often and have a good feel for ratios… and people just aren’t hanging onto them after trying them.
- Almost every review concludes “…but not my thing”. If the upper brightness is almost no one’s “thing”, then perhaps the phrasing should shift from “masterfully tuned but no one’s into it” to “not masterfully tuned”
Yep. Majestic and Glacier are “master tuning” but I’m sure 100% of normal people and at least 90% of audiophiles won’t like them. Such is life.
I’m starting to get wise again after a glass of white wine
Seems like the ‘masterfully tuned’ part is more of a ‘masterfully tried but not quite there’ situation for some!
For me it is masterfulltuned until somewhere around 10kHz. Up there must be a small peak that gets amplified in my ears. Some modern music with a lot of volume up there fatigues me, bun anything older or smoother is chefs kiss!
Ah, so it’s the classic almost perfect but a little too spicy up top situation!
Yes but it is so funny, I usually don’t mind that level highs over 8K much.
I have been using a new Letshuoer IEM for the last weeks, they asked me to wait with impressions until time was ready. They said end of this week should be okay, so with the weekend here it should be okay now.
Mystic 8 is a 8 BA set with 4 Knowles and 4 Sonion drivers, made with titanium alloy and quite a special design. Tuning is neutral with very good extension into both sub bass and with good clear top end, it excel at clarity and good vocal focus without being shouty or sibilant. The bass quality is pretty good for BA, less mid bass so it doesn’t have the fulness that what I usually go for. But the quality is very good being fast with good tactility, and the use of less mid bass does help it sound super clean and open.
I am a person who preffer my sets more weighty sound, but I also enjoy more clean sets with more mid or treble focus with some music. As I have been more into contemporary jazz lately the Mystic 8 been very great, also been listening to minimalistic techno where the sub bass focus and clean tuning shine.
The new cable they have included with the set is very nice, a thin and ergonomic 8 wire that also sound good for a stock cable. Bonus it matches the black design very well, I love matching cables by design
They have not open up about price, I assume over $900+ looking at their other models and other BA sets with good branded drivers.
Found this on Squig, not sure if its a earlier prototype or the finished tuning. Mystic 8 been in development for almost 2 years, I have nothing to do with the tuning except coming with some feedback.
Dang, that is looking SMOOOOTH
Nice!
But please allow me to ask the obvious question
“how this it stack up against Cadenza12?”
Patience
I will compare them this weekend, but can already say they are different in some ways. Mystic 8 more vocal focused, and less warmth.
I am patiently looking forward!
Thanks!
Wonderful stuff, beautiful photo as always, brother.
It looks like I am also getting a pair for evaluation eventually. Not sure where I am on that tour, but I’m looking forward to it. These do look smooth as silk!
Mystic sound but not for me
