IEM discussion thread (Part 2)

No I dont give a damn about him, he can afford to lose some money lol. Not small companies that sell on amazon though.

Also, who do y’all think pays for all those excess returns? Pro tip: it isn’t Bezos

Wow, some of you really get your panties in a twist over this. Look, Amazon touts this as a major advantage of paying for the Prime option to purchase through them. I’ve never been warned about returning too much but I also purchase and keep a quite significant $ each year and have for decades.

Usually, the prices are higher for IEMs on Amazon vs direct from those like Linsoul or Hifigo BUT with those the return policy is very restrictive. Basically if you’ve opened it and used it it’s not returnable or one pays a significant restock fee. Other times the price is lower on Amazon vs direct from the importer. If most IEMs fit your ears, great. Many have not fit mine.

Small and medium and large companies that sell through Amazon MUST sell more product than they would without selling on Amazon and make money doing so otherwise they wouldn’t sell on Amazon. Simple business.

It is absolutely unethical and increases costs throughout the chain when choosing to abuse a lax return policy. I manage a manufacturing facility and can tell you that returns cost much time and labor ($$$) to process, investigate, and resolve. The costs can be enormous no matter the size or value of returned items. In general these costs are eventually passed on to the consumer with higher prices and/or making it harder for “honest” returns with more stringent policies (put in place to help mitigate frivolous returns). Those of us who understand the costs both short and long term do not behave in such a way

The TRI i3 MK3 is a $220 hybrid IEM: 10mm planar, 10mm beryllium DD, and a Sonion 2356 mid-range BA. With an impedance of 21 ohms and sensitivity of 104±1dB @1kHz, this driver configuration sounds promising on paper but the tuning bass-light tuning execution left me wanting. Thanks to AudioGeek EU for the tour unit!

The presentation is tight and fast with good separation and detail retrieval, but suffers from an overall thin character. While there’s a nice, tasteful bass thump, there’s not much sub-bass to speak of. Vocal presence is good, though male voices lack body and warmth, contributing to a somewhat dry and, to me, boring presentation.

Voices have a nice bite to them without being sibilant, though they’re heading in that direction. The upper mids are forward but remain smooth and natural-sounding. EEven with metal like Gila Monster by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard things sounded smooth and and nothing was tiring (as can easily be the case if there are peaks in the upper mids or treble). Cymbals come through nicely with good detail and the treble maintains a nice balance.

The shells are comfy and small.

At this price point, I’d personally reach for something with a more balanced tuning like the Ziigaat Odyssey. The i3 MK3 might appeal to someone out for a thinner signature with mids and treble emphasis, but the lack of body didn’t suit me so well.

Wow, that is quite the change.

I remember liking the bass on this quite a bit in the past. but had issue with comfort (pressure build up) iirc.

Yeah, night and day from the Pro (though I never heard it, looks like a totally different approach!).

Indeed looks like an 180 change there, seems they lost their charm
plenty of iem that are tuned like this new one and this one doesnt really stand out now

It’s not an excess return if Amazon’s Prime policies allow it.

Citing ethical concerns as a reason to not abuse an Amazon return policy is just adorable.

Do you care this much about the ethics of Amazon’s shoddy workplace environment policies toward its drivers and warehouse workers?

I will not justify your implication with a direct response to your “question”.

I will say however that you have a choice each and every day: Will you make decisions and behave in a moral and ethical manner with maturity? Or will you behave in a way that continues the very pattern of unethical and abusive behavior you cite above? How you choose to live your life and impact those around you is up to you my friend but never forget, your choices have consequences that even in very minor ways impacts us all (eventually).

If Amazon was losing too much revenue from its lenient return policy, it would change the policy. It really is that simple. But as a manufacturing expert such as yourself knows, volume and scale allow a company to do things smaller ones won’t or can’t.

Or maybe
 just maybe
if Bezos and Co. used the same sterling ethics as you in all situations, it wouldn’t subject its workers to extra strain and tasks through mountains of returns to process.

Also nice to know we have a street-corner preacher in our midst, lecturing people he doesn’t even know about morals and ethics. Again, adorable.

here is the thing tho
its these back and forth returns that ALSO add to the increased work load of the very labour, drivers that are already being exploited. Its not bezos himself or the c-suite peeps who have to pick up the slack because of. So yea in a sense abusing the return policy does also impact those very workers so being mindful of that shouldnt be a problem.

Yet we still buy from Amazon despite those additional burdens placed on workers, right? Wouldn’t a boycott of Amazon be the ethical and moral thing to do because its generous return policies are part of its consistent pattern of abuse of employees?

I see your points, but you guys are both trying to be half-pregnant. Either you purchase from Amazon despite all of its workplace flaws and malpractices, or you don’t. It’s not a gold star to pin on your chest to be a frequent Amazon customer who doesn’t return many items. You’re still wood for the chipper.

For the record, I have returned maybe two or three of close to 30 purchases from Amazon in the last year. I’m not an abuser of the return policy. But the generous policy exists, and Amazon chases down and halts abusers. So, hanging moral and ethical albatrosses on those who use it frequently is only an exercise in making yourself feel superior. Congratulations.

I’ve derailed this thread enough. Answer to all and any. I will not respond to anything so this thread can get back on track.

Published my review on Ruviest Audio Prelude , the new brand made by the AĂŒR Audio tuner Abel. I usually don’t share my reviews here, but I like Abel and wish him the best on his journey alone.

This is a 1DD + 6BA IEM, that has a colourful tuning that I bet many would love. Thick and strong bass with rich midrange, with extended highs to finish it off. It is more on the musical and fun side than being technical, but that is also why I love it. Never sibilant or sharp, it loves to be played at high volume but can also sound nice for a more silent session.

It is tough competition around $400 with all the great hybrid IEMs, but Prelude is one of the best ones for me with its pure musicality and fun. Can read all my thoughts in the review, with comparison to Arcanis and Meta.
Cheers :beerchug:

I love the look of this, too.

sounds like a promising debut set. It’s good to hear that the tuning leans toward a rich and engaging listen rather than chasing pure technical performance
that kind of musicality is what a I end up preferring for longer sessions. The fact that the first batch sold out quickly and early buyers are happy speaks to its potential. Curious to see how it holds up against other fun-forward sets in the $400 range. Thanks again for sharing, this one’s going on my radar, infact I had it in since i first saw the pics
they just looked pretty fun and had a tropical vibe IMO

Yeah, noticed Dita also released the teaser for Prelude some time after Ruviest.

Polished resin outer, and quite comfortable. I preffer more curves, not all do so this might be better for more folks.
