prob need burn in? but yea shame I found it too dark and obviously got EJ10 as a benchmark and it will struggle in this regard in my personal view. What about the cable you dont like?
The cableās ok, the terminations are
but Iām not too sure how much the āEffectā cable āeffectāed the asking price?ā¦So itās just OKā¦I donāt have a pure silver 2 pin only mmcxās which I wouldāve triedā¦maybe eq could help if thatās someones bag?.
LOL thatās a
comparison ā¦I think my personal preferences lie some where in-between ![]()

When the demo EJ10 is back, you need to get brain burnin and tip rollād and I am trying to convert you too bro

Finally got my hands on the lauded Melody Wings Venus through a tour group, have spent some time listening, and Iām not as bowled over by these as many.
The Venus are uniquely tuned ⦠it almost sounds like its own tuning philosophy. MW-Meta?
Sometimes vocals feel like theyāre REALLY narrow, between the eyeballs. Then other times the vocals are on the outer edges of tracks with imaging of instruments, leaving a big hole in the middle.
After more listening, it dawned on me: The Melody Wings Venus is the first IEM Iāve heard that has the āthree-blobā soundstage effect that so many hear with Sennheiser 6 series headphones.
The Venus has NUTS imaging, pushing to the outer edges of the closed-back/IEM universe with its stage. It also has very strong clarity in the center of the head. But the sonic holes between the outer edges and the center core are ⦠interesting. I need a lot more listening time, but it definitely feels like something is missing. Not necessarily a black hole, but MW may have gone a bit too far to create holographic soundstage, which ends up sounding a bit incomplete and artificial?
While the mid-bass on the Venus is thumpy and prominent, the sub-bass extension is weak, at least with stock tips. I always start my analysis of new models bone stock. I hope tip rolling helps. Final Type Eās or Penon Liqueurs to the rescue!
This combination of prominent mid-bass and less-extended sub-bass is weird, as the tuning is a bit lacking in note weight. I hear the thump from the mid-bass and expect it to be paired with some sub-bass extension. I donāt hear that, at least not yet.
The timbre of certain instruments, especially snare drums, is metallic and off in various genres. Cymbals can be a bit splashy.
That said, the Venus is a strong proposition so far at its price point for those who like this tuning. Melody Wings definitely took a walk on the soundstage wild side, which I appreciate. Reminds me a bit of the Senny HD 800S with its overinflated soundstage, to be honest.
More impressions to come, but Iām not as smitten with these as many in here. Early days, but I still think the DITA Prelude is better at $150ish, mainly because itās not trying to do parlor tricks with its tuning. The Venus is fun, but ānaturalā is the last way I would describe the sound due to the holographic stage with its sonic holes and weird timbre with some instruments, such as snares.
It feels like Melody Wings is on to something with the Venus but didnāt quite get there. Iām no fan of quick sequels, but I think the Venus 2 with a few tweaks could be KILLER in its price segment.
P.S.: The Venus accessory package is EXEMPLARY for $150ish. Melody Wings packed this overall package with value.
These two statements right here tell me that these wouldnāt be for me. Thank you for the impressions, Paul!
Yeah, Dom, the sub-bass on the Venus is FAR too weak to satisfy you. Plus, Iām not sold at all on the emphasis on soundstage at the expense of timbre and organic sound in the tuning.
Iām glad people dig the Venus. But itās just not for me.
Hey guys, just graphed 80+ tips and made a tip guide for yaāll. Looking to improve this over time, so please let me know if you have any feedback on the list, happy weekend ![]()
EARPHONE TIP LIST/GUIDE:
Tip Database graphed under Estrella:
Great layout! FYI, Sancai Regular graph is about 3 1/2 cells too far down, covering up the description entries.
Can confirm, all good now!
Bro, youāre the absolutely GOAT for this. This must have taken so much time and work to put togeher. Respect, Jay.
So many interesting findings here. Iāve always felt that the Tanchjim treble tips had better and more impactful bass than the bass tips, and lo and behold, the graph I think somewhat confirms what Iām hearing. Same goes for the Final E tips - Iāve always felt that with tips that have a super small opening, it compresses the soundwaves in a way that makes it peaky and not very enjoyable. Look at that 3kish peak on the final E graph.
Fascinating stuff. Thanks for doing this, brother Jay.
Gotchu brother, and ya lots of interesting finds after graphing these ![]()
IMO i dont think tip graphs will show you how it sounds like for your own ears since we all have different ears.
True that itās not 1:1, but it does show the variables of each tip type using repeated measurements with a baseline and the same set/rig WITHOUT taking oneās ears into consideration, thus removing that specific variable (which also applies to all of our other favorite wavy lines). I still think that itās a good data set, we just have to figure out how to interpret it appropriately. Miles better than just heresay from person to person, IMO. The final arbiter, as always, is what we actually hear ![]()
Well said.
Thanks for the efforts Jay! Tedious no doubt.
Youāre not wrong, but Guy said it better than I ever could.
I took a real life picture experience that Iāve had and saw a correlation with Jays graphs.
Both the video and the spreadsheet are amazing.
