My finger is on the order button this morning … about to press.
I know I posted this like days ago from an another thread but I just want to say something. The more I look at this IEM, in terms of looks I think it’s one of the most aesthetically pleasing to see and to wear, and I love its matte black finish, for most of my IEMs are fingerprint magnets, so this is refreshing to own.
I have been trying some tip rolling, might get some new more tips instead for further exploration of the tuning, and right now using it with the Dunu S&S tips, though I still think the balanced stock tips are still fine. Man for the price of 99USD? this is one of the best to get in my opinion.
On a short listen back to back at Canjam I preferred Crimson over Titan even though Titan has a DD I’m an old cunt so I probably wasn’t to effected by the spicy lol, although that graph indicates Europa has a tad more bass rise/sub presence + the 8k drop off probably makes it sound quite a bit different tbh
These are $80 currently with a 20% off promotion on Amazon. I’ve already got the S12 though so I’m not sure if there’s a point to the S08
Very different tunings and different drivers, although they are both planars. Whether that’s worth another $80 depends on what you like or don’t like about the S12 and if you want something different or not.
Now that’s a thing for me…I’ve just enjoyed for the first time OG EJ07 and I didn’t find the bass lacking as the graph would indicate…maybe because the treble’s not on:fire: and it’s because of the balanced tuning that everything’s not stupidly exciting but thoroughly enjoyable
I suspect that the drivers are from the same OEM at least.
but the biggest change is that the s08 uses dual voice coils placed on both sides, rather than on only one which has been the case on all drivers afaik. I am honestly not sure what this will actually do tbh, but I think it should in theory be able to handle a lot more power/volume. With a single voice coil, all the electricity that is flowing to the driver is focused on that single point and the heat that is generated is usually the reason why drivers can die (they literally melt) if they are played at a high volume for too long. With the voice coil being on both sides, I think (HUGE GUESS) that the power can be split in half, so instead of say Y mw being funneled into one point to reach X dB, it is instead split into Y/2 mw in each half to reach X dB so the heat that is generated in each voice coil is lowered in half and thus u can increase the volume a bit more (although the diaphragm is now likely gonna be the limit for how much power u can feed into it since it is being sandwhiched by warm coils on both sides now).
But who knows…this is just a big guess lol.
Tbh it really much depends. As for me I cannot say for myself if you should get this since I never had the S12 in the first place, but I came for these instead for I am in need of a break from 1DD IEMs, and decided to go back to using Planars again. Also iirc, the tuning from the S12 for some folks can be quite harsh on the highs therefore ear piercing and not all can tolerate that , but if you’re one of the ones who can tolerate such highs and prefer a more traditional planar tuning, then I don’t think you should get the S08.
Because yeah, I do agree with most people here, for the S08 is a planar that is tuned like a 1DD, which is ironic in a way for I am looking for a planar, while that planar is similar to a 1DD. But yeah overall, the planar timbre is still there but done in a way that is very pleasing to my ears, for I am a bit worried about the so called typical planar harshness.
Now here’s a thing…after listening to quite a few/alot of £1-5k sets at London Canjam I happened upon Pentaconn’s table the guys that make the Coreir ear tips. I’d brought my Z1R’s along as a reference which until now weren’t really needed, Pentaconn now produce an aluminium version of their og brass tips which I use on the Sony’s.
So cut a long story short, grabbed the Z1R’s, plugged them in, started to listen to my test tracks I’d used all day to assess all the demo sets…and yep the Z1R’s still (never lost it) With maybe 1 or 2/3 sets I’d listened to I’d still keep them over all the others…there maybe two sets? Grand Maestro with the SuperStage Module absolutely next level, really appreciated Cadenza 12 kinda like a polished/detailed EJ07 which in it’s self is a and last but not least Cypherus Audio’s Black Dragon Susvara an absolutely astonishing bud.
Man I love my music
Canpur seies?
Nah sorry bro passed by two or three times, they had lots of sets and I mean lots, most I’d not even heard of maybe next year I’ll give ‘em a go
Their naming is like how galaxies and planets are named, doesn’t make it easy to track their models and releases unless you follow them closely.
How am I meant to know if the HD 75898 is:
a) Their latest flagship with BC, DD, and BAs
b) A different set with a different configuration
c) A star 255 lightyears away in the Lynx constellation
With the market moving at lightspeed, it’s very nice to hear that a 10yo set is still worth it’s asking price.
Cadenza 12 is definitely on my short list to try.
I see Chang, I hit like. Good picture bro. Hope you had a great time. I met Mr Chang at Singapore CanJam earlier this year.
I also prefer the Crimson over Titan(Although Titan is more affordable so get more recommendations from me haha). Crimson needs a truck to power it though
Both the Titans and the Crimsons have special sauce, so to speak, in their playback so you preferring the Crimsons does not surprise me. I love them both, the Crimsons are close to my mids and treble end game accounting for all the IEMs I’ve heard up to this point and the bass, even though being from a BA, is super impressive imo. I think it’s their best all-arounder for sure, but the Titans just knock my socks off with that sub bass. It’s enchanting to my ears, so it takes my focus away from the Cimsons for sure.
Man i can’t deny this. Titan is a special IEM especially with that bass!!
How does it compare to the likes of UM Mest1/Mest2, Elysian Gaea, Dunu Glacier, U12T, Tia Trio, Nio, U4S, Cadenza 12, and Prestige LTD
So…saw @Ohmboy 's CJ post’s and made a last minute decision to go. Glad I did. It puts all the cacophony of reviews/impressions in a new perspective (does anyone else rewatch/re-read reviews to compare what you thought before and after?). I’m just going to echo ohm but can’t help but add a couple of my own comments - in the context of having not heard totl for quite a few years, a DD obsessive and still riding the self-imposed hype, even after 48hrs.
Duality…yes, the most quantity of sub-bass I’ve heard but it’s not just that. It’s the control over it that took me aback. It can be a subtle thing at the end of the day once you get to this quantity but the dd bass experience matters to me so… I think it’s highly capable on first listen. There’s no avoiding the slightly darker signature (tho that’s not quite the right phrase - not bright but also not ba/est). It’s not like a singularity+ either imho. The temptation is to start talking tracks but I’ll leave it there. Its 2DD, metal shell, there will be impedance adaptors, and aiming I understand for roughly, 3K…my heart sank, we’re talking astronomical diminishing returns my chooms but what else does this stock. I don’t know if I’d say that about storm though - well I guess it all DR but as I later wandered the floor listening to the most expensive HPs, my mind kept going back to what storm was doing. I know lot’s has been said about it already and I only spent a short time with it so again I’ll leave it there - it takes gain for days. They said Q4 release for around 6k. These two sets left the strongest impression on me for the day. I was massively hyped for the new GM so unsurprisingly I was a big fan (vocal switch on! that’s a useful switch!!) and the Kinera Imperial Loki got my attention too.
Europa sounds pretty much as you say…the guy next to me said ‘fuller’ in comparison to Crimson. I’ll go with that. Makes sense. Titan, I feel like I need to hear it again, the only thing on the table I wasn’t sure about.
The friendly gents at FF were very willing to answer my qns. The metal FF grand maestro is made of grade 5 titanium and will go for around 4k. From what I can gather, they put the time in to research the materials they wanted to use and factories that have the most expertise (both ff + Symphonium mentioned that Singapore is not a major industrial hub and turn to China for this as do other boutique brands). You’ll have read by now they had the hbb collab but also had a prototype planar.
The Z1R continues to elude me for years (Why can’t Sony do a flagship store?).
Eventually I got fatigued from listening to so much stuff in quick succession and desperately wanted a burrito (It was nice, no time for photo).
