So it’s like a black label pretty much, it’s upgraded quality components, and then an upgraded psu it would seem
But the question remains of… is it worth it?
I would question if it’s really to the point you could hear the difference, and if it’s good enough to really compete with other stacks/combo units in there same price range.
I mean you can hear the difference between the idsd micro and micro bl (same design just higher quality components), it’s pretty easy to hear the difference between quality components with higher end gear in general. Can’t speak for the Zen signature though, at this price point not sure how much difference it will make for it to be worthwhile
Only five sold on drop so far.
I think the estimated shipping date is also having a negative effect, four months is a long time to wait for it to ship.
I’m still sticking with the fact that they are trying to compete with some rather big competition. EL2 stack, Gesheli Labs stack, SMSL SP/M200, Element 2, Jotunheim, Lyr, the Topping x50 stack…
I think the amp is a good buy, even if you don’t have a HD6xx, dac should have been $30-50 cheaper and that 4.4mm patch cable for $89 should have been included if you bought the stack.
I found this quote from ifi-Vince about the CAN in the drop discussions for the dac, seems it’s a class A amp.
PRO iCan vs ZEN Can Signature
- The ZEN CAN Signature is a headphone amplifier with circuitry derived from our flagship iCAN Pro which is very well reviewed and sells for 1,799 USD. Both run Class A discrete output. The Signature has the same underlying circuit but with critical parts that audibly improve sound quality. eg Elna Silmic, Panasonic and OSCONS capacitors and iPOWER (Head-Fi/SBAF we have listed in more depth)
Edit: Or am I misunderstanding that line?
Sorry, maybe this is a dumb question, but, can I use two outputs at the same time? for example, to feed an amplifier and a sub?
If no one has responded to you yet, I just tried on my standard zen dac and you can (at least for headphones). I have no problem outputting two headphonees through baanced and unbalanced.
You should check with iFi support to make extra sure though.
