The new Intel ultra series 3 (Panther Lake) laptops should come in a few weeks actually so perhaps may be a good time to buy older ones.
Putting new releases aside i think there is one positive note from all of this.
Devs (or more correctly excs) have to divert a significant part of their resources to optimization and cant rely on hardware improvement carrying the load - if 90% of the market and even the professionals cant buy new hardware then software and game devs have to work with a stricter “power budget”. hell even companies like Adobe might be forced optimize their shit
I sure hope so…but with how out of touch some of the execs are I can just see them blame the gamers for being broke lol.
Not many companies can handle the current wave of backlash if that happens, the only ones that maybe just maybe able still pull through is Rockstar game with GTA6 anyone else will be pretty much crucified even by “normies”
AA studios will continue to at least do as well as they can
AAA will continue to release performance patches months after launch when they wonder why hardly anyone is playing the game
More bad signs from amd…
Built my new mini server. Just waiting for another power brick as the one i got is 12v and does not work as i seem to need 19v input.
Intel i3 12100
32gb ddr4 sodimm
1tb nvme
2x NF-A4x10 PWM
Thermalright axp90-x47 full copper
It’s so cute!
Nothing like the 8-GPU, 4TB RAM monstrosities I was building there towards the end. You had to have special server lifts just to mount them in the racks. Some even came with their own mounting infrastructure.
Yep its a very small case.

Could have gone for a slightly less tall version but wanted this one since this supports a taller cpu cooler with 2.5inch hdd/ssd if needed in the future and also cuz bigger cpu cooler = less loud.
Otherwise this would have been smaller.

(the case brand is actually SKTC not RGEEK.)
I think you made the right choice. ![]()
sigh…whats next after ram and now nvme? CPU?..
TBH im not surprised, HP is a printer company, bleeding people dry is kinda their thing.
I never like HP laptops, but i hope this trend doesnt spread to other brands
Yeah, that’s a scary thought. I will keep building my computers/servers/storage once these prices come back down to sane levels. Some of those costs are just downright silly but I understand why it is happening.
I REALLY hope that will happen..cuz im scared things will go the same it did with the GPU market after the mining era.
I just looked at Scan. They have an 8TB NVMe drive for just over £1060. Ok it’s very high compared to the ~£700 it was a couple of months ago, but we all know prices have gone kinda cra…oh, what’s this? A few rows down is the same SSD with a heatsink… £2,200.
Sure but it’s the same SSD, they’re charging £1140 for a heatsink. I suspect a lot of the price increases aren’t coming from crippling demand like we’re being told but from pure panic. You have data centre companies buying supply for sites that won’t even start construction for another 2 years. Eventually the bean counters will have to step in and tell them to knock it off.
Same and until it does, since my aging computer build is still running perfectly fine, I am eyeing new earphones or headphones to enjoy music and movies with. ![]()
HP being bad as always it’s like saying if you’re thirsty, drink water. In all seriousness this has go to be one of most asinine executions of just pure greed and this mindset of owning nothing and you will be happy should be stopped and yeah I don’t feel guilt anymore when I am pirating a lot of shit nowadays because these large companies are just gonna remove the thing that you used to get easily from them.
