Mark Knopfler - as in âMoney for Nothing and Sultans of Swingâ Mark Knopfler wrote the soundtrack to one of the greatest movies of all time. Not only a legendary guitarist, but a consummate musician. My kids got me a copy of this soundtrack on Vinyl and it sounds phenomenal!
As an aside, before getting my own turntable, I thought surface noise was an utterly unavoidable reality in playing analogue records on vinyl. For anyone who doesnât want to try old school records out because they donât love the idea of hisses and pops interrupting their music - the surface noise is OPTIONAL! - A clean record and a clean stylus can provide a plenty silent floor with nothing but liquid joy coming out of your speakers!

Thatâs a good one! Let me rephrase - Iâm a digital man. CDs and now, yes, I have fully embraced streaming. But really, CDs is where I am at. Personally, I just donât buy the whole vinyl thing. No disputing the sound if you do it right. Just too much work for me. Too much money. Too much space needed to store all those records. I just canât do it. I watched my big brother toil and sweat over his vinyl for decades until he finally got rid of them because he got tired of the whole thing. But that is just me. The vinyl purists will have something very different to say, and that is cool. Itâs all about the experience you want to have.

Iâm right there with you on CDâs, Iâm a late cassette holdover, but compact disc was coming to maturity as a format just as I was beginning to really love music. I can barely remember mix tapes, but vividly remember the shiny gold of Appetite for Destruction as my first compact disc!
my wife suggested a turntable as our anniversary present to ourselves last year and Iâve been slowly converting to the dark side. It helps that her mother gave us a mid 70âs Acoustic Research integrated amp and a pair of Rectilinear floor standing speakers from an estate she was asked to help distribute, the turntable really matches well with this vintage gear and fills the whole downstairs of my house with music!
