I’ve dabbled with Miles’ Music a little, but it’s been a while - Thank you for reminding me lol I enjoy some Buddy Rich as well, there’s just so much material it’s hard to go through it all and find the right stuff that clicks with you.
I used to put 50’s-60’s jazz radio on at night as white noise. Occasionally I would wake up to something interesting. I need to try that with classical, but I don’t even know where to start.
I saw Buddy live at Disneyland a long time ago while in HS. He made an impression, I watched the whole set.
Yeah, you’ve got me when it comes to classical - I’ve never had the itch to listen to classical but I feel like a lot of folks in here have at least some in their library.
And seeing buddy must of been an experience, man. I got into jazz after watching whiplash for the first time and buddy was the first jazz artist I gravitated towards - being someone that’s always wanted to be a drummer, whiplash spoke to me and so did buddy’s music.
I got to see Buddy Rich 3 times. I was a drummer too, but HE was impressive. The guy knew how to drive that band!!! Thanks for the memory jog.
Amazing - I was born too late for sure!
Haha. There are days I feel the age though! Some awesome chances to hear bands with my young wife back then, after playing in various US Navy bands.
Also got to hear Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton, and Count Basie (got to meet him afterwards.) We had plans to see Duke Ellington, but he became ill just before due to come here and went back east then passed away. Except for that those were some good times!!
Ain’t nothing wrong with that, brother - I remember growing up with a lot and I mean A LOT of classic rock in the house, my father loved 70s-80s music so that’s what I naturally gravitated towards once I found my own music - but finding genres like jazz completely on my own in my adult age I think feels more real and natural.
I bet you have some amazing stories, though. You’ve already said so many. Must of been an amazing time.
Indeed!! Also a younger Carlos Santana. Some of the best musicians I have played with were the Navy guys. Chops!
Sorry for the thread derailment, but this was fun!
I’m officially jealous.
This was fun, brother - thank you for the journey back in time
Just a beautiful album, and equally beautiful album artwork.

Possibly one of the best guitarists of all time. I’d put him right up there with Jimi Hendrix.
Satriani has always been pretty good, but you can tell with his later albums that he got even better as time has moved on.
I’ve got an acoustic vibe going right now. Very, very nice
