Punch audio Martilo for metal currently my best set for the genre 7/10 before peq 9.5/10 after.
Initially they sounded slightly too boomy in the subbass , mids were pretty close for guitars and drums , those Knowles balanced armatures are no joke , i then I asked ducbloke (legendary peq master)for his peq settings , a great start , but had to tweak the bass from 20 to 47 in the bass peq frequency settings for more midbass slam , on top of his peq settings i then added +2 gain in 4.1 k freq at a q of 0.10 which boosted the upper mids and treble to bring the guitars more forward to compete at the same level with those two epic 8mm dynamic bass drivers
This set absolutely slams , now sounds correct and handles heavy beats and speed like a champ , everything sounds tonally correct.
Paired with the Dethonray Clarinet I think I have found heaven and hell in one.
Any chance you could share the PEQ?
Hey mate , i wouldnât feel comfortable posting ducblokes work on here it would be a disservice to his service, in saying that he is very approachable via email : [email protected]
He usually replies within a day , then apply the above tweaks to your taste.
He has sent me peq for the Martilo , Shanling Me 600 and Trn Shell , they are all really good imo.
Then just buy him a coffee or something on his YouTube channel ![]()
These are my tweaks to ducblokes peq settings on Martilo you will see i have adjusted the bass region for more slam , i lowered the gain as well , i then added that 4.1k band with a very low/wide q setting to bring everything in this region more forward , listening to extreme metal playlist on tidal headbanging and smiling , hope this helpsâŚ.(almost forgot to mention i am using divinus velvet widebores , they help open up the soundstage and are really comfy for my ears)
As I dive deeper into the hobby I look forward to finding more sets that work well with Metal music and finding what it is about their tuning and driver setup that makes them standout in this genre , it would be cool if someone could upload an all-rounder metal target on squiglinkđ¤
Wow , the Alien brain looks so good, would have to save some dollars for that set as is $1,799 here in Australia, I might try auto eq my Aful P5 to that Ab fr , itâs kinda closeđ
Alien Brain is one of CFA best models, definitely if you want a more balanced approach as most their sets have quite colored tunings away from target curves. I enjoyed it with rock and metal, but also most music out there.
Recently my faovorite metal set been Monarch MKIV when used on my HA-2A tube amp, rumble mode off as the amp itself tilt the sound warmer on MMK4.
Also a new great release from Igorrr, so much going on here and very varied tracks. Headbutt is a banger, while something like ADHD is quite the mindfuck experience and suits the name.
Are you saying he actually charges for PEQ presets?
I can vouch that he sends them out freely if you ask, but I am not sure if that is a thing anymore. I saw that he is offering a service where you can send him your iem and he can test them and create a PEQ.
He never charged me a dime for any settings sent via email but I still consider it to be a service in regards to the time and method he puts in creating his peqâs.
I should have been more direct and stated free service.
Wouldnât it be cool though if you could send him 30 tracks and your iems to be put through his peq building system.
With squig link out there nowadays its really easy to just make your own tbh.
Yeah, and with this graphical interface thing on PEQdb itâs easier than ever to experiment. Can even do it while listening to a song you upload there ![]()
Hope squig implements something similar soon.
Ok that is cool and new to me thanks!
The late Joey Jordisonâs postumus album:
I think it is a great album.
And another banger album from Orbit Culture:
