Congrats. My second LP died several hours into playing music. I seem to have no luck.

I am so sorry, Shane. Not even sure what to say at this point. Third time is a charm, maybe? I would be pretty pissed at this point.

I am not really pissed, but very disappointed. It was sounding great and I had a plan for it that included some EQ and a certain headphone. I have asked for a return and refund. We’ll see what they say. My original one worked great for a few years until I sold it.
This time it made a snap or a crack, so I wonder if it might be one tube or both. It still seems to power up fine.

Sigh…

Without any packing material chances are it got knocked around pretty good, so anything is possible. I was worried about the same, but I had separate tubes in hand, so maybe that made the difference. Of course, I can’t say for sure if that was the case. I’ll just consider myself fortunate. I hope they take care of you.

Well, as it turns out, the SE input is fried. XLR in and out works just fine. With the SE in, I had inserted a Schiit Loki EQ in the chain. Maybe that had something to do with it?

Hmm, personally I am skeptical of this, simply because I am pretty sure you have used that Loki on other devices and had no issues. Unless the Loki went bad unbeknownst to you prior to inserting it into the chain.

It would be interesting to get others’ take on the matter.

The Loki was working fine on my Little Dot MK9 at the same time with no problem. I was using a split cable to feed both amps at once from the Loki.
Not sure what it could be. I have been listening to this amp for a few hours via XLR. I had forgotten how good it sounds.

Even as I have upgraded to great lengths I have not found it in me to sell this amp off… It stays forever a permanent place on my desk due to just how incredible it sounds even more so paired with my bifrost 2. It was my first extremely large upgrade and will likely stay this way for if anything… nostalgia… just hoping it keeps with the coming years

Don’t blame you. I wonder how many of us the BF2 + MLP combo has ruined for life

JNOG2 vs Bifrost 2?

I’d be curious about trying it out.

would that be even fair to compare the two…? They are vastly different price brackets as it is

Bifrost 2 hands down. JNOG2 is a good DAC for what it is, but it’s not in the same league as BF2.

I am now part of that group, Sir! If lovin this combo is wrong, I don’t wanna be right! The tubes seem to have settled in now, btw, and the sound has gotten even better. It’s wonderful. I’m shocked how good the 660S sounds on this thing. They have gone from basically being idle to front line service. Funny how that happens…

Have any of my LP owners out there tried using adapters to use a lower gain pair of tubes like the 12AU7/12AX7 family so that you still get the awesome LP sound, but with more useable room on the knob for more sensitive and lower impedance tranducers? I have read a few opinions on this ranging from it working great to the lowered gain levels compromising the LP’s special sauce. I ordered the adapters and have a few pairs of NOS 12AU7 and 12AX7 tubes that my tube guru friend gave me bro deals on waiting for me to try it out myself when I make it home next. However, that won’t be until June so I gotta live vicariously through you guys for now. Any impressions, thoughts, advice, or experience in the matter than you guys want to share would be much appreciated.

Hmm, that is an interesting idea. While being a big fan of the 12AU7 tube, my first reaction is the latter, that it might dilute that special sauce. I am also in the ā€œIf it aint broke, don’t fix itā€ camp, and this thing definitely isn’t broke! It’s a big commitment, because once you set that adapter, I don’t know how you would remove it, as the tubes fit pretty tight in there. I have never used one, so I don’t know if the tube locks into the adapter somehow. If anyone has tried this, it would be great to get your thoughts. For now, I’m gonna hold firm with the 6922’s.

lol this is me with my liquid spark . even as a liquid plat owner now

The adapters generally come out with the tubes as they’re built to hold the pins tighter ao unless the LP has some superduper grippy sockets that shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve used adapters from the same source on my Lyr and MT-602 and they always come out with the tubes just like the builder designed them to.

As for the loss of magic thing, I read up a bit on the use of the 12AU7/12AX7 family in the LP tube rollers thread on Head-Fi and it seems like it does change the sound a bit which is to be expected, but that the same overall character that makes the LP special is retained. Oh well, there’s only one way to find out I guess so I’ll just have to try it myself. If anyone’s interested I’ll try to remember to come back on this thread and update it with my impressions of the LP with the adapters (won’t be until June).

In the meantime, if anyone that has experience with the 12AX7s by adapters in the LP, I would still be interested to read your thoughts and impressions. :+1::sunglasses:

Alright I gotta pipe in here, don’t run 12AX7’s in the Plat!!! 12AU7’s are fine with adapters because they can run 6.3 volts and their heater current is 300, well within spec. That said, don’t run Tall Bottles or anything outside of the 12AU7 spec or equivalents with the right adapters or you’re going to have a bad time. The 12AU7’s definitely elevate the amp above what it does with the 6DJ8 family, and they can be had relatively cheaper and more plentifully from friendly folks like Brent Jessee 12AU7 Tubes in Stock I recommend going for something based on his descriptions and which way you’d like to tilt your sound, then look for a few of the cheaper tubes to tube roll and see what you like. I’ve been running 12AU7’s in three Liquid Platinums lol, I have a problem!

Thanks! This is exactly the kind of input I was after. I have 12AU7s that I’ll definitely be trying when I get home and have the chance. :+1::sunglasses:

Some tubes need lots of burn in, I’d love to know your thoughts once you’ve let them marinate!
