Objective2 odac

It was a good amp for that price when it came out, but it has kinda been beat out by stuff like an atom + d10 stack or stuff like the fiio k5 pro for that price. Also I think you said you wanted something you can use on your phone, so you can look into portables

I was yeah lol researching both now

The atom gets alot of praiseā€¦ it gives you the headphones as they are is what Iā€™ve read? Not colouring the sound? Thatā€™s a benefit for me to begin with at least ā€¦ the headphones themselves are already different enough

Can a dac change the sound as well?

Yeah the atom is pretty uncolored and leans a bit towards the analytical side. A dac can defently improve the sound too. The odac dac is somewhat older at this point and I think the d10 is just a better dac now, so that can improve sound quality as well (the d10 is also fairly uncolored too)

So many rabbit holes ā€¦ spending money hasnā€™t been this fun in years

Lol I can agree with that one, you can just go deeper and deeper for more enjoyment lol

I saw your profile and realize how deep youā€™ve gone lol Iā€™m stopping at $200 itemsā€¦ for now :ok_hand:

Now thatā€™s the way to think :ok_hand:

How well would the d10 serve me moving up the amp chain?

It would work pretty well imo, I think you could move up a step and still be just fine

Liquid spark a good option? I ask because itā€™s on amazonā€¦ I hear it colours the sound but I donā€™t think Iā€™d mind (and maybe prefer) if itā€™s to the warmer and or darker side of things

The liquid spark is great and I can highly recommend it if you donā€™t mind what it does to the sound :+1:

What it mainly does is add a little more meat to the low end and is a bit wider sounding, and a bit smoother throughout the range, but itā€™s not in your face and is somewhat subtle with this

Iā€™m sold. And will probably get the atom down the road too and continue playing in the pretty rewarding budget segment of headphones :ok_hand:

Well hopefully you enjoy what you have and have coming (and the stuff you decide on in the future lol) :+1:

Iā€™m sure youā€™ll hear about it lol thanks again

I donā€™t want to beat a dead horse but before I go setting up my laptop as my source I want to confirm I cant bypass my phones internal audio with a desktop amp/dac even when its connected usb both ends (usd-c in the phone, not the headphone jack)?

So with the odac if you have an otg cable with type c to the connector use on the odac, there is a chance it would work, but it might be iffy. I think if you wanted something you can easily connect to your phone, a portable dac amp would be more up your alley. For a desktop environment the odac should be just fine tho

I know I am bringing an old thread from the dead, but it just happens that I got an JDS Objective2/ODAC last month, second hand, and I have been really impressed with its capabilities. You probably figured out that you could do what you were intending (bypass your phoneā€™s internal DAC).

Did you get to keep the O2, or did you move to a different setup? If so, what did you find lacking in it? Because it has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it with poise.

If I remember correctly I borrowed this from a friend and it was the first headphone amp I used. I have since moved on and unfortunately I canā€™t really give too many impression because it feels like a lifetime ago. I think if youā€™re enjoying it that is what matters most. Iā€™ll say there are gains to be had even moving to the current $100 amps but that can be said moving up from any tier.

Glad youā€™re enjoying it :beers:
