Question: Need Android DAP for Hiking (Replace old Hiby R6Pro)

Good Morning Everyone:

Hoping for some suggestions from the experts here. I need to replace my old but still great Hiby R6Pro. The primary reason is that the Audible App will no longer function soon due to older version of Android. The secondary reason is that I would like to try a DAP with a more “clinical” or “neutral” sound signature. I enjoy Hibys warm sound signature and am strongly considering the R4 but if there are alternatives that meet my below requirements I will try something else. I will use with my beloved UM Mest Mkii and UM Mest Jet Black iems.

Use and wishlist:

*Primary use is hiking/fast hiking/trail running and walking. *Need small form factor (back pocket or small pouch on backpack compatible), Android (recent version for longevity) based for apps, wifi, 4.4 balanced output, lock screen/buttons capability, lower cost preferred due to use case.

I ended up ordering the Hiby R4 for it’s familiar interface (I have two other, older Hiby units), options, and my great previous experiences with Hiby products. I will also admit that the asthetics played a part as I found the unit very cool looking.

I actually bumped into the FiiO M21 and saved to my wishlist while doing research. Great suggestion and one I will try if the R4 does not meet my needs.
