Do you have another point of comparison besides pw? It would be worth to compare to 2 or 3 others besides him with the same iem.
Just by eye his seems like a bit of an outlier tbh.
Still being so far off in the pinna seems weird.
His is directly correct from looking at other graphs and indeed even their official graph. No, it’s definitely my rig somehow but I just don’t get it.
I assume you have checked that your rew settings are identical? Mic calibrated?
Maybe tried different on Linux instead of Windows to see if there is something funny with windows?
I’ve tried 2 computers, a clean load of REW. Haven’t tried linux because who has time for that. I may try an ipad next.. but GRRR, why could this be happening?!

In the past few months i’ve tried something i’ve never seen before. This is the dark magician driver in combination with Sonion BCDs. I think they play quite well together. Finally put this IEM together yesterday. When i build it up i got to know how only the Sonion BCD drivers sound on their own which was quite interesting to see.
I really appreciate the stuff you’re doing Michael! You really got me into the diy stuff.

Hey that is very very cool! I did something similar but decided not to use the BC in the end. Also I ported the BC driver into the nozzle rather than out the shell. LETS GO!

Modding a 2nd Radsone ES100 with a 650mah battery instead of the stock 350mah. Juuuust barely fits. It will give about 24 hours at high current and gain on balanced, perfect for a long mountain run.

Just watched the vid. If I understood correctly, you managed to fix the sub bass issue you mentioned some time ago? I really feel this is the kind of IEM I’d gladly add to my collection.

I did manange to fix it in terms of balancing the tuning while still being fully open back. The tuning is actually very good.. I’m stewing on it for a bit. Lots of good here, and some nitpicks.

I’ve been working hard on getting the high end where it needs to be to match the stage mojo and bass of this driver. I think I finally cracked the damn code. Actually chatting with Grok helped me solidify what each thing i’m doing does. Trust me, the amount of computation needed is unreal.
Anyhow I finally managed to at least match if not outdo the special Softears Twilight driver in treble. I’m definitely not smoothing anything here either.

As someone who owns the Twilight, that only makes me more interested in hearing the Anomaly. Congrats on cracking the code then! I can readily imagine that it took quite some effort. I think we’re all waiting for it to be finalised. Knowing what the Twilight sounds like helps in trying to at least imagine what the Anomaly can do.

I’ve been on a tangent to find the ‘Shortbus meta’ tuning. This for me means something that actually sounds like speakers from about 8 feet back. I ended up just doing dumb stuff which is doing a free field measurement using the 711 placed right next to my ear, facing the same angle as my ear canal. This is clearly not an anechoic measurement as it is in my square room with reflections and room gain, etc. I ended up with this (smoothed) graph to remove as much oddness as possible and just get an idea of the general FR.
next I took my best anomaly tuning and used only 3 PEQ bands which I have available with my Motu MK5 interface to reform the tuning to about as close as I could get:
Upon listening, i’m pretty convinced this is much more accurate to the sound I am used to.
As far as I can tell, only the 64 audio Trio and Fourte do anything even close to this kind of tuning among thousands of IEMs. Very interesting! I don’t think I can tune 1 DD to be like this which is sad, but for future multi-driver iems, it is definitely on the table.

Not without DSP/EQ right? Could include one of the dongles that have peq access with your preset loaded on them already for example.

I think it is about what people look for or, rather, what they find appealing about how the sound is brought about. There will definitely be a market for a PEQ/IEM combo. Personally, part of the appeal is seeing what people can do using only ‘analogue’ means. I wouldn’t call adding PEQ a hack but just a different way of going about it.

Excellent point. The future would be eq if you could somehow make powered iems (that are not annoying and have battery that eventually dies)

Just watched the vid and I feel you should definitely try this with a multi-driver IEM in the future. IMO, the real innovation is to be found in trying new and exciting things like this and not pumping out endless permutations of the meta ‘du jour’ like some companies do.
