Shortbus Audio Anomaly (and more possibly)

I had to murder a unicorn driver in order to replicate it. Talk about rough times.

Probably just me but it could use some more low end with some flattening out or leak below 40Hz.

You still getting that Midbass and subs at loud volume?

If you are talking about that last graph, it has great bass, BUT, this was working with drivers that are not to my spec. I wasn’t sure if I would be stuck with them. I think I am not. I had to break some of my precious drivers to figure all this out. Thanks manufacture.. GRR.

[edit] I just burned a grand of a set doing that

I would also keep in mind the difference between good and amazing is pretty big in my own mind although there are plenty of people that would say im far up my own ass.

Also, I didn’t directly answer this. I drastically prefer the purple graph, and im talking back to back listening. Not theory. Blue/green has a slighly shouting effect and again, back to back, the purple graph sounds just ‘better’ to me. Everything is more in the pocket, instead of the mids poking out and being the star. Of course all this is preference, time of the day, time of the month.. etc. Im testing over a long time, a month plus in general when it comes to the high levels Im getting in here.

Annd for reference these are different drivers, one has a different internal volume hemholtz. Never ever assume one graph sound like another, the factors that 711 cannot hear/see is drastic.

you are a high volume listener arent you? fletcher munson effect would likely make it shouty for you yeah. Lower volume is a different story though.

Nah, not high volume most of the time, just when I feel like rocking out.

read it out loud dude, M8

spent the weekend refining how to build these iems, a few minor things ended up making a very good difference in terms of QC

This is actually left/right.. not the exact drivers I have coming in but

your tastefull midbass hump is pretty much exactly what i am adding to Mystic 8 via EQ, leaving the sub as it is though and upper registers untouched.

It´s such a special IEM, especially on tubes :black_cat: :fire:

Did you try Cadenza 4?

Yeah, the C4, Vol S, and Mystic 8 were my favorite iems of 2025. I bought Vol S and M8.

did not try Vol S yet it always looked a bit too warm for my taste but since so many are praising it i should give it a try one day

Small update. I was able to find the Chinese patent system.. go figure. It exists. Not only that, those patents describe exactly what high end iems do which is different than normal ones when you understand what you are reading. I was able to then refine my iem based on this. I am not copying anything (nor do I want to really), the patents are not specific in terms of measurements or anything, just general details about what feature does what.

I win? Likely just BS on a graph.

I got the fabled ‘correct’ custom drivers in. THEY ARE IN FACT THE RIGHT ONES. Thank jesus or whatever deity you prefer. I took all the last month of fucking around, put it all in one set and rocked it for the day. Holy jesus was that good.

Im going to do 2 versions of this set, one has bigger midbass and the other has the stock bass that I sent around for folks to listen to.

I realized during the last month of fucking around with drivers that are not up to my spec… I can tune almost any ‘nice’ graph and they still don’t blow me away. The magic custom drivers I spec’d out blow my dick off every time with a variety of tunings… they are just better.

Final drivers will be PU surround + LCP diaphragm with a custom internal baffle/hemholtz size. 11mm, 1.6 Tesla (strong ass magnets). The tuning will have no damper occluding sound, but will have a small coarse foam to prevent ingress.

Curious what anyone thinks of this graph, I find it VERY 3D and nicely extended while not having too much treble.. but nice treble. Bass is holy jesus levels of badass. The mids are very interesting.. I find them very rich and yet not too forward. Good meat on the bones.

If you want vibration, imagine a shell that is as thick as this:

I’d definitely be willing to give that a little listen.

That 4.5khz to 5khz region relative to pinna peak gain is always dangerous for my ears (can come off too sizzly/sibilant) but I’d listen to this before making any judgements. I also trust your ears as much as any squiggly line. Good example being my Glamdring; on paper the squig looks like searing pain but it never steps wrong to my ears.
