If he wanted to buy new, a Marantz MM7025 might be in his range and he could get a smaller preamp
Can recommend the special 40, great speaker (well most dynaudio stuff are pretty great)

I think it works alright, better than nad and cambridge imo. It’s solid but notice how I said “new”, I think he could do better in the used market

how would arcam blocks work for them? he mentioned he has arcam, and they generally get pretty good reviews.

The stacked/layered wood veneer finish on the red Special 40s look so sexy.
theres a listing on us audio mart for the special40’s+ stands, gently used for 100hours. 2200$ they are the grey ones tho =/ I am with @Veritas the red ones are sexy
