You can also use room correction with the speakers through software if you wanted to try that out
This is actually exactly what I was looking into next. May buy a mic from minidsp to use REW and have Roon play it back
I think you underestimate the importance of a quality amplifier. The Marantz could be fine but never great.
Be careful with cheap Class-D s on current demanding Dynaudios, you can blow up your tweeters.
Now you know how much potential is in positioning alone.
That’s a great option! I did the same thing in my old office. But I recommend putting some absorbers on the wall behind you.
I got the best sound putting the speaker on heavy Floorstands behind the Desk. That actually works really good, because you get a better Stereo triangle. I did also put a high quality, hard, thin carpet on top of my whole desk to reduce reflections. It’s actually very comfortable.
Not even close lol… I have heard them with an 8000€ Accuphase E480 at my local dealer… there is a lot for improvements because Dynaudios scale amazingly good with quality electronics.
I have found some nice Amps for you… feel free to ask if you want to know more about one of them.

Very cool and analytical, a bit treble heavy but can handle a lot of current.

A very nice and warm colored English amp. The Naim sound is not for everyone.

You want Power? Well this is power: 200W@4 ! I don’t know any other integrated Amplifier that is less collared than this one. Very very neutral but not aggressively revealing on bad recordings. I own a V2 myself and it loves Dynaudio, great synergy. This Amp is a true high-end Monster, no wannabe audiophile stuff.
If you want to buy new… look at my older post above.
I’m not underestimating the importance of a quality amplifier. I just have virtually no frame of reference of the varying levels of amplification (from a subjective listening perspective) to create an educated opinion on amplifier classes, power requirements, headroom, current vs wattage (yes I know the difference) as it relates to the way a speaker would react to it when we have no published measurements of the speaker in question, etc. This is a subject matter that I’m very familiar with in the world of headphones, but with speakers it’s new to me. All I can run with at the moment is yours and others here excellent input and suggestions, mixed with a bit of research on the state of technological development of amplification in the market. Namely, why I currently struggle quite heavily with the idea of purchasing an amplifier on the basis of being Class AB, when that genuinely tells you nothing because power delivery topology is only a single aspect of amplifier design and implementation. Meanwhile, you’ve got tremendous advancements in class D amplification that has led to even big players in HiFi choosing OEM class D components because of their tremendous success and technical achievement at a given price point (yes, I’m aware a chunk of this is a business decision related to potential profit margin on the implementation of a highly cost effective solution). I speak of course of Hypex and Purifi modules among others. Doesn’t take much reading to hear about dozens of people who’ve sold their $5,000+ class A or A/B amplifiers for Hypex NC400 or NC252 or Purifi 1eT400 module based Class D amplifiers because they couldn’t hear the difference. In these instances, no claims of it being better, just no difference. And that speaks volumes (anecdotally of course). So I’m sorry if I’m coming across as a bit hesitant.
I’ve been trying to find measurement data on the amplifiers you linked (thank you for those by the way!!!), but it seems like this is really hard to find (probably because it’s more of a recent trend to publish this kind of data and these are older products). And as they’re used, I’m running on a bit of blind faith here.
That being said, all three of those amps look like a hell of a deal to be honest. The Swiss apparently go crazy for Naim and ATC, or so I’m told by the dealer that sold me the Dynaudio’s. He was saying that it’s kind of hard because his customers all want Naim and ATC everything, even if there’s something “better.” I’m intrigued by this.
Killing my wallet here by showing me that Audionet SAM but I knew what I was getting myself into I suppose lol
Ironically, that SA98e amp sounded quite a bit better than the Sony AVR that has more power by quite a margin. Sounded fuller and a bit more engaging somehow. That’s something I didn’t expect, it was a silly experiment anyway.
Also, I’m aware of the dangers of underpowered amplifiers damaging a speaker. Though this little guy is no slouch (80wpc @6 - albeit at max volume with a 10% THD rating at that level). I’m also not listening at very loud levels (maybe somewhere in the ballpark of 70db on average) and maintaining the amplifier at a reasonable level to keep it from going anywhere near it’s capacity (and controlling input voltage using the output of the SMSL su-8 digital volume control that also controls the line out level). Please tell me if I’m missing something here.
I wish I could do this, but I won’t be able to, even if I flip the desk. There’s about a meter of space for me to walk into I’m not turning that into 50cm so I’m kissing the wall everytime I sit down lol. Maybe I just gotta move and get a bigger apartment with a dedicated room for my “office” / audio space / YT space. Who knows?
Yeah I think I heard them with a Naim network streamer connected to an ATC P2. Crazy stuff. But it’s great to know the Dynaudio’s scale well. Makes me more comfortable with sticking to them and focusing on the electronics instead (which I usually know a bit better about).
I consider my bookshelves to be endgame for many reasons.
I have the System Audio Pandion 2.
You might have heard of them since they’re a danish brand.
Their MSRP is $3500 euro, but most dealers have them for less.
They use scan-speak drivers, found in many totl floorstanders and were developed on an open forum with over 100 engineers and a listening panel of 14 people iirc.
It just occurred to me : the IOTAVX SA3 can be expanded with the PA3. You get bridged 180W @ 4Ω from a very nice amplifier! That would be my budget recommendation, because I have very good experiences with this amp combination. An absolute price / performance monster!!!
.
everything build by Moon < cheap/old Class D < old Class A/B < new Class A/B = Class A < very expenisive modern Class D … as a rough guide
more power is allways better but some speakers need a lot to sound good at low volume, some don´t
don´t ignore dampening! Thas one of the key advantages of class A/B over Class D… I would always choose more power with Class D than with A/B.
The module basically just functions as a current multiplier… you are kind of ignoring the more important voltage multiplier circuit. Preamps are important and you need a good one.
Dynaudios love power. I am not surprised, keep experimenting!
I just don’t trust these Chinese power supplies …
You can realisticly only measure maximum poweroutput and distortion. Every speaker has a different resistance across the frequency band. The dynamic behavior of the power supply is also difficult to measure and is depending on the speaker too.
If you feel better with an amplifier that has good measurements you should have a look at Audionet’s website. Their amplifiers achieve very good values and that is important to them.
I always advise to trust your ears and buy what you have fun with.
The results of aggressive A / B testing are mostly misleading. I prefer to listen to a whole song in peace and relax. This way I can make out the difference much better, because I let myself be surprised. I want to enjoy the experience.
I had corrected my entire system with DSP. But I didn’t like it and meanwhile I only use DSP with subwoofers. DSP can’t improve anything … it can only make something sound less bad. It fixes the resonance in a bad environment, but it remains a bad environment.
Sorry i didn´t get that. The P2 is a very good Poweramp.
Have you heard the Barefoot/Output Frontier?
The 2 year bump lol. Unfortunately I’ve not heard them, but they do look pretty interesting. I have heard some mixed things about them, specifically regarding if they are a “real” barefoot monitor, but those are just things I’ve read on line, don’t know anyone who’s tried them (that I trust) and haven’t heard myself so can’t really say anything
