What is the biggest thing you've learned during your audiophile journey?

Another one that came to my mind is that if you are participating on a gear tour or loan, you have to be prepared to pay the full price of that gear. I’ve seen some incidents where the participant can’t pay for the missing or broken equipment.

Ha ha! I was actually excited I was getting something free from Linsoul. It took forever to get to me, so it had me guessing for quite some time. When the package arrived, I ripped into with a lot of anticipation. It was a very large rolled up pink mouse pad with Chinese girly graphics on it. I think there was a matching wrist wrest as well. I immediately put it back into the box and ended up giving it to my girlfriend who gave it away to someone she works with.

I was quite disappointed, but the gesture is what counts I guess.

So that’s what Zeos also received, maybe?

Prob from Drop.

OMG! Yes that is it.

$130 bucks… Seriously? I would have preferred a cable or tips. lol Something related to what I bought from them.

Well, the whole package includes a mech keyboard for those Japanophiles out there.

I think it’s better than them giving you tips that either don’t fit you, don’t fit your IEMs, or both. :stuck_out_tongue:

So despite my philosophical learning, this is in the iem thread so… Tips!!! All the tips, try all the things, meaning on all earphones try all the things you have collected lol while there are some mainstays tip tech aka ear coupling is always getting better just like the earphone tech its self… Worth the investment easily.

Could not agree more. It’s pretty amazing to me that many do not explore all the aftermarket tip options. A good fit is incredibly important to hearing what the IEM is truly capable of.

I think the thing that I’ve learned the most during my 2 years in the hobby so far. Is to learn your preferences but not be afraid to try something different, you may be surprised what you find. Coming from my EQ’d Elears I was so focused on detail, imaging and accuracy that I thought that those were the things that really mattered to me about the hobby, having the ability to pick apart each piece of the mix and hear all the subtle detail and micro dynamics was amazing to me, and on more complex tracks it still is very much enjoyable to me. But when I got the mid forward, and basshead like FH5’s, I was shocked by how much more I enjoyed the music for most tracks, here was something that is not even close to the imaging or straight up resolution of my Elears and I found myself much more drawn to it despite that fact. Even the mid forward bias that I thought I would need to eq out when slightly tamed and with the upper mids balanced out became my favorite part of the iem with the bass a close second. These have now become my daily drivers with the exception of when I want to listen to more complex and soundstage dependent tracks, where the Elears are still brilliant when properly EQ’d. My last take away is to me detail has a required threshold but once you meet it ( and it doesn’t have to be HIFI levels) musical enjoyability trumps everything else.

Set a budget and stick to it.

So underrated… It’s so easy to climb the ladder of “better” and get disillusioned.

$200 per component is my max, roughly. This might be blasphemy to some, but if I can’t appreciate a $200 headphone, I think there’s something wrong with my expectations.

Wow, the first step is admitting you have a problem.

I’m so jealous now. That is some collection you have there.

I mean, tips are cheap, at least, lol.

Do not follow others rec, rankings, etc. Instead buy the one that YOUR own ears REC

To try to not forget the most important thing, the music… At least for me, i sometime get too caught up in window shopping and reading/watching reviews of equipment i realistically can’t afford. Sometimes you just need to enjoy the gear you have, and listen to some good music…

Also, try to find reviews of products you already own, in order to find reviewers that matches your own views on the product, so you at least have some sort of baseline when you are researching a new item to buy.

In fact, these are excellent headphones, I, like you, found a similarity in sound signature with the OH10 on the graphs. My AKG EO-IG955 was in the box for over a year, then I listened to them for the first time from Filo Btr3. I was shocked, there are fantastic treble and sub bass improvements in the finished headphones. The tonality is just great. With great pleasure I listen to any music on them, rock, jazz, trance, hip-hop, deep-house and everything sounds great. The only complaint with AKG is the lack of low frequencies in terms of mid and high frequency resolution. This impressed me and I decided to buy myself a higher IEM. I studied the forums … The first purchase of JadeAudio EA1 (they are fiio fd1 and they are worse in everything), the second ibasso it00 (the bass is better than the akg, but the treble is better with the akg, and the level is better), the third attempt is kz zax (the bass sucks, muddy and weak, no depth, high screams, the most unpleasant things I bought. it00 were the only iem that partially surpassed the ig955 in sound, but not in all parameters (akg is still more pleasant tonality and better resolution and detail I want to try fh 3, oh 10. I want to note that from my smartphone (galaxy s9) akg plays much worse (bloated bass and sharp highs), from a good source the sound is much better (I listened to fiio btr3).

The better my system gets the less I enjoy shitty recordings. Find myself hitting the >| more than I used to.

I don’t by any means have very high end equipment, and on the speaker side it is less of an issue for me, but even with my modi3/magni3 to HE-4XX and HD58X i find quite a bit of the music i listen to to be “harsh” in the sense of audio quality. And with more expensive equipment that would probably be even worse. That said, i do listen to a lot of “old” recordings (prog rock/rock from the late 60s and through out the 70s), and it is what it is.
