After all the intro budget sets. I briefly owned the Moondrop Starfield, which was lacking something, so I sold it. I then bought the Moondrop Aria. I liked the sound on the Aria, but they needed a replacement cable, and didn’t hold up well. My connectors were loose within 2 months, and one of them starting shorting before 4 months.
I bought the Tripowin Mele and found that perfect budget set for what I listen to. I am a classic and progressive rock guy, but I like some bands in other genres.
I had an open back detour here, and picked up the HE400se. $150 for a magnetic planar was too good to pass up, and I don’t regret it. I already had an amp, and just needed to tweak the pads to make it comfortable for me ( Sennheiser Replacement Headband Pad ). I thought I was done with headphones until I bought these.
I tried the KZ ZEX, which isn’t bad, but has a weird bloat to it, but it was a non shouty KZ set, so that was nice. I still think the ZS10 Pro is my favorite KZ set I have heard. The KZ ZEX is currently in a KZ AZ09 wireless, so it might get used on my laptop, but I will confess that my Earfun Pro Free TWS buds sound way better. Note if you are looking for budget TWS those are still my favorite at $60, decent sound, ANC, and they have great battery life.
When the 7Hz Timeless hype train started, I was saving for the Mangird Tea, but there were reports that something was wrong with the newer ones and they were shouty. I had already fallen for the planar sound, and the idea of IEM comfort at the same time was very appealing. I jumped, and they have exceeded my expectations.
I was so happy with the Mele, I bought the blue version and an Xinhs cable for it. These are one the best value IEMs on the market. I know the new T3+ might give it a run in the under $100 bracket. The Timeless and Mele compliment each other well.
I still use ZS10 Pro for watching TV on my Roku remote. The Moondrop SSP is a nice small set that I tend to take on the go, it does great without power, thanks to low impedance ( 16 ohms ).
My current wishlist list includes – Mangrid Tea, Tanchjim Hana 2021, Tanchjim Oxygen, and maybe the Tin T3 Plus. With an open back on my radar, AKG K702.
I am trying decide what I really want to do next, Tea and Oxygen are a price step up, but probably not a step up technically from the Timeless, and that might be hard to do without spending $500 or more. Maybe this is when I wait and save, and decide to get something is a bigger price jump up on the IEM side, but I don’t know what that is.
