another interesting fact - Tarantino with the hateful 8 - was shot on 65mm analog film (and transfered to 70mm) … and anamorphic lenses been used - tech from the 1950s beats modern glass
the originial 187min version produced only ran in a hand full of cinemas, because of the analog tech
the digital 167min version ran in standard modern cinemas
digital can´t match a 70mm film production - analog is not dead!
Yeah. Film has analog beat in a lot of areas (not colour anymore since Steve Yedlin’s display demos prove that with the right color metric data you can make digital replicate the color of film exactly so long as you’re not working from a compressed source)
Tried these at RMAF. Really liked them. Too bad I dont have a used Honda Civic layong around that I can sell to grab a pair.
They released a new line of IEMs that were pretty intriguing as well.
They are really great for sure, a good improvement over the regular d8000 imo. I have yet to try their new iems, so I wonder how they will turn out
Because if an artist/group and their studio technicians have made the effort to include details that you care to disregard then then that’s your perforative…it’s not a pursuit of hyper detail as such, just an attempt to discover the truth of the original recording warts and all.
I believe OP’s problem was hyper detail as in… a compressed sound, with details as in-your-face as cymbals, snares etc. Unrealistic detail. I wouldn’t like that either.
With a way too compressed, way too resolving system, you can hear stuff no one heard in the studio now, lol.
I wouldn’t say that people producing the song would have not heard it (depending on the quality of how it was produced and who produced it), but would have not expected you to hear it and found it very unlikely people would hear it.
yeah but thats the goal. the goal is to kill analog. analog is to cumbersome, unwieldy, time consuming, very time consuming, difficult to get right, unreliable.
Digital is easy, convenient, fast, more reliable, easy to get right in a computer with all the tools that come with it. Digital is a boon for a artist. can you imagine? The ease and convenience and speed?
For instance. If you were a director or DP before you had to change the magazine in the camera every 15 minutes. send it to development, this took hours, then have it screened for you in a theater. so you had to leave the set to see how what you did turned out. Not to mention the unreliability of it, which is big fault of analog, sometimes it was ruined, didnt come out right.
Now with Digital you film it, walk over to a bunch of screen setup on set and instantly see how it came out and what adjustments you had to make to the scene. you can also view it right in the camera. Run it through a computer for color correction or filter to get a certain effect to improve the story telling. Also to fix a mistake that ended up on film, infinitely easier and faster and more versatile than analog.
Analog is a dog no doubt about it. Tarantino is in love with the past. And wants to capture those nostalgic feelings. Even including mistakes and poor resolution into his films to get it. its built on shit. I understand it. I like that stuff too sometimes. but the art of film can fly so much higher when we do something original using all the digital tools at our disposal in the hands of a real artist.
I think this goes doubly so for music and music technology in the studio and in the end listener. If we’re getting something from tubes or older tech that we dont have now a filter can duplicate it. and probably better and much much cheaper. another fault of analog and old tech, much more expensive.
Are you serious or is this a rant about Digital? and analog should be used further?
i used to do graphics production. and i saw how much better things got with computers and digital. I’m saying digital is better than analog in everyway and in ways not even realized. If the resolution matches analog. any effect we get through analog can be duplicated through digital and newer technology

Digital is inherently and objectively superior in every way, but we’re humans, man… perfection isn’t always appealing. I’d rather date a girl with some relatable flaws, rather than some robot.
Sometimes I want to listen to tubes, purely for it’s unique appeal. Replicating that with filters would be pointless. The added friction and time it takes to setup a record album incentives you to sit and listen to the whole album from front to back. It’s the same for the artistic process. Newer digital tools are great, especially in production where time is money, but doing things the hard way can often be a better teaching tool or benefit the creative process in unpredictable ways, because you DONT KNOW exactly how it’s going to turn out and you don’t have perfect control.
Did both.
Married the un-robotic, kind hearted, fun and still beautiful girl. 20 years later it’s still the best thing I’ve done.
Then I reckon in the audiophile world you’re good lady would be a Tube Amp just like mine…a warm heart, well rounded, pretty and forgiving when not dealing with a perfect source (me lol)
By the way, Kodak went bankrupt because they were convinced no one would ever switch to digital. Ease of use won over quality.
I’m pretty sure people are still arguing over continuous signal VS quantized bits on forums, heh.
idk, i think i’d go for the fembot. when i’m done i could just turn her off and put her in a seat in the corner
I prefer analog sex.
I said analog, you bastards!
I wonder if your taste in music would change if you where a robot just hearing 0’s and 1’s
oh no… what did I start?!
you all can stand on your head… analog will be there for a long time in pro productions and in the niche sektor
vinyl has a comeback as analog films sell like crazy
some big companys still produce analog cameras and think about new models
I shoot analog / digital for fun and clients and they love it
