Worst fear/scare related to audio?

Oops, lol, the question was, what’s the worst fear/scare that happened to you. No I’m not deaf (Corrected).

Hmm. A few jumpscares the first day I had my JDS Labs Atom because of that little f##ing “gain” switch…

Yeah, unless it’s particularly aggressive you don’t notice it when listening to anything, even quiet songs (though I can hear it over my computer’s fans). I didn’t even know it was unusual til I was 8 when someone said they had ringing in their ears.

What about not knowing that the treble has been cranked up to max and you’re like oblivious to it that once you put your cans, your ears got killed by the murder treble. That’s a fear I got as well.

It’s called Beyerdynamicsphobia :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, same. shrugs
Saw a reddit message where some “audiophile” said he got tinnitus for the first time and was scared to death and wanted to kill himself but it only lasted like 24 hours… I was like, come on, you get used to it, you just forget it, you get used to everything, lol.

I mean I would freak the fuck out if something like that happened to my ears initially

I understand that, but, I had tinnitus for 20 years, so… it was just weird seeing someone thinking about suicide because he had tinnitus for one day.

There’s so much more to life than audio, tinnitus even disappears when you listen to music, etc etc… Trust me, eating chocolate, having sex, listening to planars, taking pictures, petting my cat, is still 100% worth it even with tinnitus :stuck_out_tongue: Simply because when you forget about it… your tinnitus doesn’t exist anyway.

It apparently varies a lot person to person.
Mines a very high pitched whistle, and it usually doesn’t bother me much during the day, but I have some days where it’s beyond annoying, to the point I won’t listen to music on those days.
I’ve had it for decades.
On the measurements miss a lot note. According to my ENT doctor, my hearing measures extraordinarily well for my age, so it doesn’t directly affect my hearing.
I do think it contributes to my preference for a somewhat warmer than neutral sound.

When I first read “ENT doctor” my brain went to a doctor for talking trees. Then to a doctor who is just really tall. Then it finally landed on what it actually means. Been subjected to family for the past 48 hours so my dad joke game is particularly strong right now…

when i was a kid my cousin thought it would be funny to round up the kids in the neighborhood around a firework that was designed to give off a loud bang. Got tinnitus after. It can get loud in silence but when i listen to my audio gear its gone. and it doesnt seem to interfere with hearing little differences in gear. Maybe it goes away when theres noise around or something.

Music is effectively a form of tinnitus masking, the old-style treatment. Nowadays (assuming your available healthcare is good) they tend toward retraining where you essentially teach your brain how to hear the affected frequencies properly, again.

I’m always paranoid taking hearing tests. I swear there are times I am not 100% sure I hear the beeping or tone and am not sure whether to click the button. My last hearing test I had perfect hearing, which shocked me considering I am a veteran and played drums and bass guitar in my youth.

I think I’ve had the ultimate fear realised. Just got a new amp, can’t find a 1/4" adapter anywhere in the house. :skull_and_crossbones:

Rip, may you find one soon lol

I had my first crack at doing measurements and EQ on my Celestion SL600’s, had the frequency range on REW all the way up to 22k and the tweeters simultaneusly let out a nice dark blueish smoke. I was convinced I heard a rattle out of the right tweeter, but gladly it was just my brain trying to make me feel even worse. Lesson learnt, the copper dome tweeters dont like anything above 20k.

I have a fear of accidentally deafening a client during a recording session by accidentally sending a really loud signal thru their headphone mix… and fire. Always fire.

oof, yeah that would have been overall major suckage when that happens.
