Worst impulse buy?

I think I’d take a T1.2 over an HD800s, Utopia, and probably every other dynamic driver headphone other than MAYBE an ATH-ADX5000

To this day still one of my favorite headphones that I can’t seem to get rid of. Feels like a scenario like with Sennheisers 600s or beyers dt 880.. incredibly hard to find something else

This. For me my wall of pain has the Aeon Noire first generation. I keep it around mainly because I will never get the money back for it, but also I take it down and listen to remind myself what many people in this hobby are into and how it differs from me. But it is painful because the build was great, just not for me for music enjoyment.

For the HD600 at least, I try to remind myself that if I had that headphone in the late 90s as a teenager I would have likely flunked out of high school with how good it sounded.

I also bought one used and thought that I could eq it to decent sound but that was not be. Worked hard at it but in the end I sold it at a loss. Reviews did not tell the truth in this case in my opinion.

That’s one way to deal with it! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Why don’t you Just sell that stuff?

Maybe you are living by the Yogic princaple of Ahimsa and don’t want to harm others?

In that case that’s very noble of you sir! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I feel the same, it is one of those that has made me trust certain reviewers more and others less with regards to how my preferences align with theirs. As someone mentioned, it might have more to do with genre matching.

Agree with you and @Swedish_Mike on the Aeon Noire. Not a good headphone, especially for $800.

Veiled sound. Very little treble extension. Weird cable connectors. Pads that rolled in on themselves. Clamping force of an industrial vice. I sold mine within two months.

I keep them there as a reminder of my stupidity. (Also, I’m secretly a hoarder  )

I recently impulsively bought a used Fir Audio KR5, which I honestly didn’t need (too many other IEMs here), off a German ad site.
After hearing the XE6 and RN6 and everyone talking about the brighter sound I was kind of surprised when it was brutally warm, even dark. So dark I’m not sure if they are broken (although both sides measure the same). Filters have only little effect as well so maybe there is dust inside or so.
Anyway now I’m stuck with a maybe/maybe not broken set I blindly bought for 1300€, which I didn’t actually need in the first place  Of course I can’t just resell those either now, so I probably need to send them to Fir Audio and lose quite a bit of money.

Lesson learned. At least for now - haha

Luckily I haven’t had anything that I couldn’t send back, but most recently it was the Fidelio X3s. They were like 115 over BF this year so I thought, “fuck it, I like my X2s, let’s give em a shot”

I didn’t hate them, but they just didn’t really sound any better. They were just harder to drive, and it seemed to me like they’d put a little more focus on the treble, whereas the X2s had a little more focus on the bass, so once you volume matched it was just like listening to the same headphone, one with a bass booster and one with a treble booster. So back to Amazon that went.
