Nice one! If you listen to a lot of metal or electronic music, it doesn’t really get much better. I know people that prefer them to super high-end stuff like Utopia, AB1266, and Stax. I personally prefer the 900 to the Utopia, Stellia and Susvara specifically for metal. However, if you listen to a lot of classical, acoustic, vocal stuff, then you can do better, but the TH-900 is still very good for pretty much all genres.
Alright now the question is D5200 + Lawton cups or TH900 + dekoni leather pads?
I mostly listen to edm and really liked the edition x v2 for that. Currently I have the he1000v2 and th900 and a lawton modded d5000 (that i might cannibalize for the th900) on the way. Should be sweet. Got my eyes on the Utopia next…
Sweet, yeah I like most of the Hifiman range to, just worry about the build quality. The Utopia is quite an experience, but it’s kind of like its so perfect that its boring. With the music I like (usually not great recordings) the Utopia is really brutal and makes it not so enjoyable. If you only listen to well-recorded, mixed and mastered tracks, then it is phenomenal!
Found a pair of th900mk2 on ebay. Comes with dekoni sheepskin pads and a different cable. Just pulled the trigger on them. Can’t wait to get them!
Make sure to post plenty of pictures so I can envy your purchase.
Can’t comment on th900 but have Aeolus and Atticus - and they (Atticus) are more lively and neutral than Aeolus for sure. Just A/B’d em and the Atticus woke me up a bit in a good way
