~$700-1000: FPS, critical positional accuracy, open-back

Yep! It’s my fav DT, the one I do like lol. Best balance, but…still dry sounding i_i I like both DT880 and 300 R, but not enough to keep in my collection.

Hell yea it does… it sounded like ass on some of my amps… like the aune I had didnt do it whatsoever lol. It was even a bit more questionable on the asgard. Jot 2 seems alright I changed over and have that hooked to the bf2… makes the clears sound good actually but I think it comes from that smooth quality the bf2 puts into the sound. RNHP + bf2 though… I have yet to find a better combo for focal and in many cases it does beyers and sennheisers incredibly well.

It is a bit unnatural in the case of soundstage… as is the GL2k to a more ridiculous degree as the air quality is nuts on that one. AD will have your more all natural kind of staging which may help you feel more comfortable. It soundstages very similar to my T1.2 and I found that rather enjoyable as its more relaxed and just flows smoothly instead of HERES A GIGANTIC ROOM so to speak lol

well, I can’t say there is a lot of deadspace really that is something they do well enough. Arya and GL2k both really didn’t suffer from that to my ear which is surprising… they do stage quite well despite the exaggerated staging. Despite their crazy large staging though they are still incredibly accurate.

I mean, at that point man… 100% vouch towards the T1 2nd gen just for a test run. T1 2nd gen is the cut above the 880 there and has a lot more character to it…

though seeing your amp and dac? I would highly encourage finding something thats a bit more… colorful or just less sterile and bland on sound traits. Flip over to like a schiit stack or hell even the liquid platinum if warmth is your thing… might make you appreciate some of the headphones a bit more when the stack isn’t trying to be so analytical. If natural is your thing then find something thats smoother

I think I would go back to Focal before Beyer, hahaha. I demo’d a T1 before at a music shop, but maybe it was a super bright Gen 1 or something.

I guess it’s down to GL and AD. Maybe I can get both, if I can find cheap enough, and then I’ll get an idea of what Arya’s extreme stage sounds like from the GL, and a more focused, accuracy-based approach with the AD.

I have BF2+G111 now, but I will never forgive Clear for disappointing me so much that day u_u

if it was blindingly bright and neutral or less on the bass side it was more than likely the original 1st gen lol. First gen T1 is just like 1990… neutral bright and quite unforgiving

you will definitely get a good idea of the arya from the gl2k. GL2k is… a hit or miss… Personally for the price new? not worth while… though they have nose dived in price of late so I would dig around on that.

lol, understandable. At some point I would encourage trying the new mg… but who knows maybe you just dont like the focal house sound.

If you have a DT880 Dekoni choice suede pads make it sound so full bodied and get rid of a lot of the dryness. If you already own one definitely worth it.

Ill have to give the RNHP a try then. Its the most fun off the tube amp its so retardedly bloated it’s pretty fun. But the TA-30 does a great job. But that’s where the list ends. On 4 other amps I had it was a no go. Very picky.

I wear those exact pads on my 2nd gen t1 when im not playing fps lol. Love them… ultra comfortable and the amount of body and warmth from them is superb

So recently I started playing around with dampening the inside of the gl2k and found that when the driver has more contact with the housing it seems to give more feel through the pads and adds some weight to the sound especially in the bass they never had and that extra feel really relaxed that exaggerated space and added a lot of realism to the soundstage without making it any smaller. Kinda reminds me of how people describe how the bone conduction in the MEST mkii adds a certain amount of realism and bass impact without it being measurable. I don’t know what made me set down the path of tweaking on them, maybe it was the letdown from the stock performance and wanting to salvage what I could lol. But it paid off in the end so whatever.

@CT007 if you want a pair of pre modded gl2ks I could do that. I have a spare unmodded barely used pair that was mostly used only for a/b testing vs mods and I could be talked out of it and could handle the mods for you.

Theyre a magic pad. Does very well on multiple sets of headphones. Super comfy as well. I may have to pick up some T1.2’s

You think it’s the move over the AD2000X? I’ll have to get both of them, but whichever comes first doesn’t matter. (ordered AD)

Any special pads I need for them?

And I can un-do the mod?

just the ones it comes with are fine

yeah but its not good unmodded. very specific music sounds ok on them but not much. and same for gaming performance, some stuff is a little muffled and isn’t quite right without the tuning paper removed.

Most games only have 5 zones where the sound originates- so the only real precision required here is to distinguish one zone from another. The game doesn’t provide any more info that that. So…footspe

Anything with good stage and separation will be good. My vote is for a used HIfiman Arya, can be had for around 900

What would be your #2? What do you think Arya clearly beats, out of AD2000X, GL2000, Ananda, etc?

Do you play PUBG/FPS? What are these 5 zones…?

Can confirm, trash unmodded as I tried poks mod here. I just dont like needing to mod an expensive headphone. Although for gaming solely… it works with or without the mod just fine.

Curious, where do you find this information on zone based sound in gaming? Never heard this.

Arya and GL2k can go head to head… they come out on top over ananda outside of just general sound qualities of which gl2k is the worst of those 3. AD2000x excels in a bit more natural soundstage size and imaging but its bass is a bit sub par compared to gl2k… gl2k has probably the best bass tones and arya has the best sound quality there by like… a mile imo

Nice bullet points :+1:t3: Yeah, I’m definitely curious about AD bass, as a side note, knowing how 700/900/1000X sound. Not expecting a whole lot, but a decent boost would go a long way with these =p Arya top quality dog, hm. I def want to give it a spin. Amazon return :bulb:

I could be completely wrong. I don’t work in game development. I’m just repeating something someone else said, lol.

Anyone think the spendy avias or blon B20 would fit what the OP is looking for? I find the B20 pretty accurate with imagining, gives you enough bass and has a pretty big stage. This would be more of a value suggestion though.

From what I remember about the aivas the soundstage was kind of oblong. Kinda wide but not much forward depth and not the best with rear depth and height.

That makes sense, I always am amazed with the let and right staging of the B20 but I don’t ever remember a huge holographic sound.
