A Cheap Magnepan

I prefer bare wire - less connections = less potential degradation of signal. And definitely less resistance. But bananas are definitely more convenient.

Might as well solder the wire to the binding post at that point too lol

But I would agree bare wire is technically the best, after that I would say spades, then banana. To me spades make the most sense in terms of not being a total pain but making a better connect than banana

yeah I’ll probably go bananas as my LRS are currently hooked up through spades… so having two sets of adapters will help so I don’t have to unplug every time I use.

Except when I want to run the HPs the Maggies will play which will be a PITA to take them out each time… The best best would probably be to hookup Maggies via bananas and the HPs through spade to make it easier to pull out each time.

Probably need to think about this a bit more… thanks all for the input!

You could always get a speaker switch box

That’s even more connections :scream: lol. Audio nervosa and all that…def the most convenient method though.

If you didn’t care about quality of wires and something that would be good enough, this would work and is something you can order through Amazon

Or you can go a more custom route. With this all you would do is hook up both the maggies and the 1266, and then when you wanted to switch, just turn down the volume, turn off the amp, switch, and then turn back on the amp (you probably don’t have to turn off the amp when you switch but it’s the safest way, still no unplugging anything though)

Another amp pairing question… I’ve decided to keep the Hegel so not a revisit to that…

I still would like to into tubes to drive both LRS and 1266 Phi TC via a full speaker amp. End goal is Arc but that is 2-3 years out as that is a ~$5k amp to get one of the big boys.

In the meantime what are your thoughts on this amp?

It’s a class D “tube hybrid” rated 200 watts @ 4 ohms and > 1000 damping factor. Seems to have the “juice” to drive both properly but my question is due to topology (Class D tube hybrid) should I expect “tubiness” and will it have decent quality / technical ability ? I know very little about rogue other than they make some decent stuff but also some throwaways.

Rogue is a good brand and I wouldn’t have an issue buying their products. No experience with them on Maggies but theoretically they should be good…class D gives you the current needed while the tubed front end gives you some tubyness.

yeah I guess that is my question “some tubyness”… I’m just wondering if it will be different enough to be worth it or will just sound like primarily a solid state. I guess I need to go find a Maggie forum or potentially a forum on the Rogue Sphinx.

A terrible site to look at and use but has the most knowledgeable people is the Planar Asylum

Try this instead. It’s another old school site but way better than the other one. Also dedicated to planars, so much Maggie knowledge and experience there.

I ended up having to sell my maggies today along with the hegel

Basically the wife forced me to take move them from our family living room into my “listening room” (extra basement bedroom 9X11X9 and it just wasn’t the same in a small space. I found myself not enjoying them nearly as much nor using them often with 2 small kids so had a buddy give me a great offer on them.

Now down to a couple active bookshelves on headphones only. Maybe once the girls are older I can invest in some full size speakers again.

The issue is not the speakers but the wife

My daughters need a place to play where they can run/crawl around and our basement is the only place that is baby proof’d that can fit that. She actually made very logical points and they would tear apart the top heavy and paper thin Maggies if I let them out.

The wife never bothered my about anything audio related up to this point. oh well…

Dude I wasn’t knocking you at all. Life is about compromise. I was just being a smart-ass.

What hegel was used? I was thinking of this exact pairing and if my house hunt wasnt taking over a year i would of tried to convince you to keep it in the family.

Holo Spring KTE ->Hegel H160 → Maggie lrs+ Sumiko S.9 sub.

You need a rather large room, pull the lrs 4 feet from rear wall and a quick sub that plays tight (eg Rel or Rythmik).

I’d also suggest you demo with your nearest dealer to ensure the presentation fits your preferences. I loved the Maggies after listening to Zu Dw, Tekton Lore, and some B&W towers.
