A Comparison between the Rupert Neve RNHP & Lake People G111

Probably too late but for future readers of this thread, I found that planars sounded like hot garbage out of the G111. Many may disagree. It’s suited for 300 ohm not 30 Ohm cans. I only ever tried it with the Sundara and XS- maybe its a hifiman thing? All I know is I sold my G111 because it didn’t pair well IMO, which sort of broke my heart because I loved that amp with SS stuff

Genre specific question:
Can anyone give their honest opinion on how the RNHP or G111 (preferably in combination with the Bifrost 2) sound with technical (death) metal - basically complex, fast music genres.

Welcome!

Good question. I happen to have both RNHP and G111 hooked up to my BF2 right now. What type of headphones are you using? I’ll try to get close to that and give you my opinion on your requested test tracks.

(FWIW, there is a G111 for sale on the buy/sell thread for $290. It’s an insanely low price for a great amp.)

okay - I’m way out of my depth on this genre of music! So take this with a grain of salt.

My preference between the G111 and RNHP for these tracks is the G111. It comes through faster, more precise. No sense of “blur” between the notes. On the RNHP everything seemed slightly less controlled. And less realistic. I thought drums were hard to get right before, but with this crazy fast death metal drumming, they really came through sloppy and unrealistic on the RNHP.

My guess is RNHP is a little under powered for the LCD2PF, and this type of music just exposes it more than others.

In the spirit of “overkilling it”, I put my Focal Utopia on the RNHP + BF2 and listened to your tracks. And that sounded excellent! I actually started looking at other tracks on these albums (which is saying something for a Jazz / Blues Rock guy). So really I think it’s a pairing thing with the RNHP and LCD2PF - not the best for death metal. But G111 and LCD2PF was very enjoyable.

Sorry… best I can do…

With those headphones mentioned, I’d also pick the g111 over the neve as well tbh (although not heard the rognir)

Thats my G111
I had both the G111 and the RNHP at the same time. I couldn’t let go either, the solution was to get the soloist 3xp.

From the headphones I had at that time with my preference,
He5xx: RNHP
Tygr: both equally
T1.2nd: G111

Going to post my comparison with the soloist 3xp

Thank you for your feedback, I received my G111 today (300€ in silver, a real eye-catcher) and immediately connected it to my BF2. So far, unfortunately, I’ve only had the opportunity to listen for 30 minutes with my Kennerton Rögnir, but It is very detailed, I think it sounds much brighter (in a good way) clearer and more precise than my Singxer SA-1, also faster. Thanks again for your help and advice!
