oh my setup has been the shure se846s for 2 years now. They are very nice in detail but aren’t the most fun. One reason i don’t consider the elexs was because they seem very similar even though the 846s are iems. I do still have audeze sine closed backs which i adored but they have broke on me, and the comfort was terrible.
Hello,
I meant what kind of amplifier you use as “setup” .
The way I read it, the Lcd 2 C cost 600 as an introduction.
Later they were sold for 800.
I always think such promotions are okay.
oh i set aside money to get a nice amp depending on what headphone i buy
right now i really dont need an amp
Um, yes.
Even though the Aeon is advertised as not being needed.
You will quickly notice when you plug it into your smartphone that something is missing.
In the end, it depends on whether you will use it only at home or also on the road.
At least a Jds Atom would be good for home.
And for on the road there are mobile solutions.
At least even if you want to exploit the potential, which would be advisable.
Tablets and smartphones in particular are not designed for this due to their construction, and the power output is relatively poor, especially with Android devices.
For home listening via laptop or PC, the onboard chip is not the best.
But it is sufficient, and better with a Dac connected to the headphone amplifier, or a combined Dac/Amp.
It depends a bit on the goal you are pursuing.
An Ify Zen or Hip Dac would at least not be wrong.
If you have the Aoen, I wouldn’t jump to conclusions before connecting it to a dac/amp.
Yes, the Aeons are low impedance, but really like high current amplification to sound their best.
Comparing the LCD-X2 with the Aeon 2C is like trying to compared a diamond to a pearl.
Its like comparing a College basketball team to a Pro Basketball team.
Both can play but one is …
They really are that far apart…
The XC-s are a much better gear.
However, they are not for the person who needs a thick, syrupy, relaxed tone, as they are energetic, lively, powerful, extremely micro detail resolving, and as others have stated, they’re heavy.
The AC2, is Dan’s best headphone. Its warmish, sweetish, neutralish, etc.
Its quite a step up from the Aeon Closed which was a unique sound, great comfort, but forgot to include bass response.
The Aion Closed is a much better sounding headphone then the Aeon X, but inferior in sound regarding the AC2.
i came to the conclusion of having a strictly home setup so i am now looking at the audeze lineup vs the zmf “affordable” lineup and if its worth coughing up the extra money. I love the aesthetics of both lineups so its just to comfort and sound right now.
what did you get? i think overlooking the hifiman lineup is a mistake as they are not as “bright” as you might think. Aeon 2 is one of my favorite headphones under 1000 . never a fan of the audeze 2cs too heavy and the sound isnt “better” than aeon or hifiman in my opinion. also the aeon is the best build headphone ive felt. owning something that feels engineered means a lot in daily use also way more comfortable than the audeze. darker sound yes for audeze and bass thump. thats about all they do for me.
FWIW I have a pair of aeon 2 closed and hifiman Ananda. I think they are both great headphones in their own right. I don’t find the Ananda bright at all.
People knock the hifiman build but I think the Ananda are pretty fine. People also knock the Hifiman cable. I didn’t find it to be as bad as expectation level but I still replaced it with an aftermarket balanced cable.
Now the Aeon 2 cable, that’s another story. WTF were they thinking putting that junk in the box?
Not only is it stiffer than a viagra induced hard-on, its so freaking microphonic i can hear my blood pumping through it when I’m trying to chill in my comfy chair. No, just no Mr Clark.
I’m waiting for an aftermarket balanced cable to arrive for the A2C. I’m gonna make the OEM cable suffer when its here.
Hmm,
The cable from the Audeze is OK there.
But for the price, a hefty $170 is a lot.
I would make one myself if I knew what the pin assignment on the 4 pin XLR mini was probably.
What I find annoying about the Lcd2c cable is that it tends to twist.
But otherwise it’s not a bad cable.
It would be desirable if Audeze would at least offer the type of plug with which it should be delivered.
That would save extra costs.
With the Aeon you only hear good things, apart from the fact that it’s supposed to have a little less bass than the Lcd2c, that’s a matter of taste.
And in general, regarding cables, it’s a general problem that manufacturers often save money.
Not necessarily something new.
Yeah sounds about right. I think alot of people would still go for / use aftermarket cables even if OEM cables were of better quality.
I nearly picked a pair of LCD2C up used for OK price. Think they are a great sounding pair of cans, killer bass, but just too heavy for my pencil neck.
