All Things Classical

I listened to/watched a LIVE concert yesterday. The Concertgebouworkest
(Amsterdam) but in Berlin…a Mozart violin concerto and Beethoven’s 4th with
Ivan Fischer conducting. Ran a coaxial cable from my tv to dac to amp to headphones. Wonderful… and amazing that we can even do that these days! Audience was sparse and spaced out, but their WAS an audience…we’re getting there! They have been doing concerts on Fridays as well, usually 1pm CDT. You can watch on YT (I subscribe) or their website.

This is perfection. And a good test of your headphones. Close your eyes and savor.

Well shit, this is good. Thanks for sharing. I have JUST started giving more time to classical. My work situation has changed and I am going in every day now. I both ride and drive, so I decided to start listening to a classical station, KDFC 104.9 while in the car. Damndest thing, I am enjoying it. I’m Looking forward to discovering more.

Let me just say that I really enjoyed that AAM performance that @Cameleon30 posted, particularly the Grimani and Haydn segments. Ms. Mullova’s performance was spectacular. She really got to riffin’ during the Haydn selections! I listened on my new TA-20 amp, which was pretty great in itself. I feel like a whole new door has been opened.

Glad you enjoyed it.
Bach Concerto No1 is beautiful and brilliantly interpreted by Mullova.

And so the journey continues. I caught the very last of an interesting piece on the way home and so I thought I would find and listen to it this evening. This is wonderful.

I have tried several different recordings but so far I enjoy this one the most.

Edit: I forgot to mention that listening to classical music on this tube amp is pretty spectacular. It takes you there.

What a great piece. I have never heard this played before (still a classical rookie!) I have to say that I am almost as enamored with the instrument as the piece itself! What a beautiful thing this is.

I think I will watch the interview with Mr. Smits. He did a wonderful job. I have been listening to some Vivaldi lately so to have that Vivaldi connection is nice. Great find!

Well, after watching the interview I have stumbled onto gold! I look forward to listening to this tonight.

I highly recommend anyone to go through their channel, I’ve found so many great performances, its a real shame these are just on YouTube, would love lossless files of these. They do have some of their catalog on Amazon Music HD and am sure other streaming sites. Great find indeed.

Reminder that the BBC Proms is on this month.
Catch up / watch live on the iPlayer.
I appreciate most of you are probably living outside the UK, IDK how you would listen
Guessing there will be some way to stream it.

Yes, I wish they didn’t make tickets to the final night so difficult to obtain!
But, I really must here the organ in all its glory one day - a live orchestral performance in general would just be brilliant - and at the Royal Albert Hall no less - not sure I’d want to wear a mask for the entirety of the performance though!

Well, after a little deliberation, I have finally gone down the Rabbit hole that is Mozart! I’m starting with this

I know, start right at the top! This is the London Philharmonic and Alfred Scholz. Great recording. So far it’s everything I thought it might be. Still in the first movement…

@Raptor168 Great start! I recommend you ck out the Primephonic streaming service.
They have much to offer those who want to learn more about this genre. Suggested playlists, podcasts, weekly lists of new releases, great categorization and search function, AND most importantly a new feature called Maestro (look for the icon) on some pieces…which offers comments about the music in a small box insert as it is playing (you can turn it on and off.) I just checked and it looks like they currently offer a free 3 month subscription, but ck to make sure that is hi res. Otherwise all is CD or above and I really enjoy it. They also have recently added a forum, which is filled with mostly really nice, helpful folks.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will definitely check it out. Discovering (or re-discovering, if you will) classical music has been really fun and has provided a lot of joy. It’s also fun to learn about music. As I am listening to a piece or a whole symphony, I try to look it up in Wikipedia and read along while listening. I’m constantly surprised by what I learn.

For instance, I heard " Toccata and Fugue in D minor" in the car on the way in this morning (almost fitting for a Monday!) I had no idea that was Bach’s work! It’s that kind of thing that makes you hungry for more.

I enjoyed this so much last week I had to listen to it again on the new stuff

This time on the SP200. Imagine my surprise when this little gem of an amp just knocked it out of the park. Well, that and this amazing DAC. The resolution and detail was such that I could hear every little thing, every note, every nuance. I could even hear things coming from the audience! But the performance to me is splendid. Ms. Mullova is a joy to watch.
