@ 11_Clouds I see you have those cd’s by the stove…are you going to burn them?
Couldn’t resist!
I did the Qobuz trial and it is good sounding and the classical catalogue is good however the catalogue for other stuff I listen to isn’t quite good enough and they seem to have so many versions of the same album which I never quite understood, I hated the interface at the time as well so would hope 18 months later they have improved that a bit.
I decided, at the time and cost, that Amazon HD was the better option for me, and it’s just got a bit cheaper, so I ditched Qobuz.
Vinyl hunting is much more fun. I certainly don’t miss CD.
lol i see what you did there
I never got into vinyl. All that popping and wheezing! I used to watch my older Brother agonize over his record collection. It was kinda funny. He would meticulously take the record out, play it ONE time while recording it to reel-to-reel tape and then gently put the record away, threatening death to anyone who even looked at them! Of course my middle Brother would then torment him relentlessly over this. Watching older chase middle around the house became a regular thing!
He eventually got rid of them because he was sick of the storage space requirements needed just to house them.
That only occurs if the record is dirty or scratched or the needle is dirty. A clean, unscratched record won’t have any of that.
Sweet. I will investigate!
Doing a little Mozart tonight. Enjoying this very much. Great recording.
AMHD > Douk Audio U2 Pro > Schiit Bifrost 2 > XDuoo TA-20 > HiFiman Sundara
This selection caught my eye this evening and so far I am enjoying it.
There is another reason for this pick… Well alright, I’ll tell you! LOL! Back in another life, when I was in school, I played the B-Flat Clarinet. And I was pretty good. But then there was High School, Puberty, Girls and Football!
That guy sure knew how to make a racket! I use this album to test the dynamic range capabilities of my gear. From the softest subtones to the fortissimo of full brass and percussion, this music has the widest range I can think of. I think there might actually be distortion in the recording (it was early 70s, if I recall) - I think the chain I’m using is pretty good, but if I set the volume where I’m not straining to hear in the softest passages, the loudest parts then suffer from crackling and overdrive. Is this a thing that anyone has noticed in art music recordings? Kind of frustrating…
