@dcofficehack Will definitely ck this tonight. Could use some good Bachā¦now 4 family
members with covid and I canāt help them except deliver some home cooked food.
No YT link, but tonight Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances (3 in particular)
My fav. version Rattle/Berlin Love bathing in the smooth middle section between the more brilliant beginning and ending. But itās all great!

Listening on AMHD This link just mvt 2 adagio. Album includes both concertos
4 and 5 and is very well recorded.
Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.5 In E Flat Major Op.73 -"Emperor" - Adagio un poco moto - YouTube
Also looking for a Schubert solo piano piece, slow mvt of something or a nocturne etcā¦about 4 minutes long and very soothing, quiet. I lost it when Primephonic disappeared somewhere into Apple. tia.
Alsoā¦ I wondered if John Williams enjoyed hearing his Fanfare played over and over during the Olympics for his 90th birthday. Turns out this happened too, though Iām not sure when.
Happy 90th Birthday, John Williams! - YouTube
We are wrapping up this eveningās festivities with Something I have wanted to hear for a while now
Wow. What a performance.
AMHD > Douk Audio U2 Pro > Schiit Bifrost 2 > Singxer SA-1 > Focal Elegia
@Raptor168 Karajan and Berlin is a special combination! (PS I just listened to Tchaikovskyās 5th Jurowski/London last night.) Canāt beat the tone colors and emotions
of a full orchestra!
Itās fantastic, isnāt it? Music like this actually brings an emotional response. Near the end of the second movement I had a hunch and switched headphones from HP-2 to Elegia - And there was an improvement. Seems the Elegia does Classical better than the HP-2. But for rock and really technical jazz etc. the HP-2 shines, especially with this chain.
Now that I have that locked in I may revisit symphony #5 and then spin up Symphony #2 this evening. I am becoming a huge fan of Mendelssohnās work and look forward to getting deeper into that catalog.
I need to ck Mendelsohn furtherā¦not my usual but he knew his craft well. Regarding emotional responseā¦I did workshops and private sessions using music and imagery, including in a hospital setting with cardiac surgery and other patients for a time.
Used classical for most but must carefully match the need with the music. Also no lyrics to get in the way, lol. In general many people have listed music as the catalyst for their most āpeak experienceā events. Enjoy letting Mendelsohn nurture you.
Thanks for the tip on that Karajan/Berlin/Mendelsohn album. Just listened to bits of eachā¦
very dynamic and well-recorded. Iāll be back for more of it!
Woke up to a rainy day. So itās another classical morning! I am currently getting my mind blown to bits by this
Good lord. If you havenāt heard this before please go find it. I need to find this cd now.
AMHD > LG V40 >SMSL M200 > Realistic 7-Band EQ > Denon AVR-2800 > Senn HD660 S
@Raptor168 That album is kind of legendary. Glad you enjoy it. I also like Barenboimās Claude Debussy album. Ck out La Cathedraleā¦ (sunken cathedral) to see what a grand piano can really do! Heās playing his specially made straight string piano and the bass is amazing! As a former teacher I like that you are so eclectic with your music choices, have seen your posts on the other thread, and cable research, etc.
PS rain here too. And slushy snow last night. āCan spring be far behind?ā
@Raptor168 or anyone else here. Iām more of fan of baroque music but want to discover classical more. I feel that i should focus on Mozart and Beethoven first.
Any recommendations of album or pieces that are a good start?
PS: i prefer concertos than symphonies typically but Iām open
Thanks
@Cameleon30 Branching out? I love it. Good recording of Beethovens 5th piano concerto by Till Fellner. Helene Grimaud also has done it. Second mvt is heavenly. His other piano concertos are also very good, imo.
I also like Grimaudās Mozart Fantasia #3 in d minor. Beethovenās violin concerto in D is also popular, with many versions and soloists. Try Perlman or Anne Sophie Mutter.
Just a startā¦have fun.
Thanks for the recs. I listened to Mozart Fantasia #3 and #20 the other night. Enjoyed it quite a lot.
Appreciate the feedback. Glad to help. If you ever want some symphony suggestions Iāve played quite a few (timpani) and have found some good recordings. Also some Rachmaninov piano concertos, etc.
Sorry for not responding sooner. I am somewhat new to classical myself, having just come back to the genre after a very long time away. So I am finding my classical sea legs as well! I tend to prefer orchestra, so no opera etc. At least not yet. Right away I gravitated to Vivaldi, Mendelssohn and Beethoven. As time went on, I finally tried some Mozart and got swept away by his genius. And things are growing from there. I canāt wait to see what else I can discover!
Trying to focus on Mozart as well
