All Things Classical

@astr0 Generally, I don’t use headphones when listening to classical, or other music. Occasionally I will, but more often than not, I use my 2.2 hifi system for music.

However, when I do use headphones I will use the Sennheiser HD650 or @ZeosPantera Eris headphones. I never use IEMS. I have a couple pair of them, but I don’t use them because I don’t like the feeling of them jammed into my ears.

@astr0 @TimpTim44 is speaking some wisdom. Truth be told, like @SandboxGeneral I enjoy classical the most on speakers. But on those occasions when headphones are the appropriate choice, I have been using the SJY Horizon Closed Carbon headphone, driven by a speaker amp, the SMSL DA-9. This pairing is presenting classical music to me in a way I’ve not heard it before. It puts you center stage, about 5-6 rows back. Simply spectacular. That said, I still prefer speakers!

As for IEMs, I don’t have many sets, but the Mega5est does a fine job. If memory serves, The Pula PA02 was very nice as well. Well now I am gonna have to pull them out this weekend and find out!

Hope that helps. Enjoy the music. :notes:

Speaking of enjoying the music, I found this wonderful video this last weekend. This is my first time listening to Maya Oganyan play. Just WOW. Enjoyed on the bedroom system, of course. Love classical on that old system!

That piano creates such a beautiful sound. I had not seen one until this video.

I’ve done it again! I have found a piece of music that grabbed me for whatever reason and then went on a search to find my favorite performance. I’ve been at it since last night! This time it’s Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3, op. 37. Turns out there are a vast number of players that have performed this piece, so it’s been fun listening to various interpretations etc. So far, I have come back to this one as my potential favorite.

This is a great record, btw. I may have to add it to my collection.

Been listening to classical all day. I finally got the chance to play my new CD on the big system in the living room all the way through.

There is something about a big system and classical music. I find it to be a very satisfying experience. Amazing CD, btw. Leon Fleisher is a genius.

I like to hear this about bass because in general people always think that classical doesn’t have bass and requires neutral flat tunning.

I just discovered this 4 seasons record from 2025.

This is a great rendition with very interesting interpretation and very technical playing from Daniel Pioro.

How interesting! I just discovered this on AMHD this evening

This is weird because supposedly this album was released in September of this year, but that picture is much older. I dunno! I do know that the performance is incredible.

Fun music and it will test how much IM distorsion your system has. Anna is a gem in my opinion.

I was in the mood for some Vivaldi and re-discovered this group. Vivaldi - Concerto for Two Violins in A Minor RV 522, Complete. Lodge & Lee, Voices of Music 8K.

Fantastic. The Pula PA02 - SH-9 pairing is doing a great job with this. :ok_hand:

I am discovering something new to me tonight. This is the work of Georg Philipp Telemann.

I love the energy of this work. This is also my first exposure to Isabelle Faust, who is absolutely incredible. As per Audiophile Audition… “This 2024 release captured my fancy, convincing me it should be subtitled “the effective Telemann,” given the sheer range of musical combinations and violin techniques demanded of Isabelle Faust and her deftly gifted companions. Not the least of the ingredients in this dazzling mix, Faust’s instrument, the 1704 Stradivarius, “The Sleeping Beauty,” generates its own, piercing energies in the course of a series of compositions that easily rival Vivaldi and Bach for their blend of artistic invention and bravura musicianship, at moments jaw-dropping for articulation at astonishing speeds. “

I wholeheartedly concur.
