- Point3 1250mW of output power at 32Ω
Ooo, I’ve got a nice selection of ECC82/6922, and a pair of delicious CCa that a good buddy gifted me (2 sets) super rare these days, et al sitting here doing not much. Might have to roll some tubes…
I’ve listened to the Gremlin for about 50 hours now using several sets of tubes.
I started with the stock Ray Tubes Core 12AU7. Completely inoffensive but no real flavor or heat felt.
After just a few hours I rolled some Siemens CCa that we an OK set used a bit in my big hybrid class A speaker amp. Still just OK in the Gremlin. Rather heavily rolled off upper frequencies. Could be tired/done. Otherwise not a bad listen. Not exciting at all but great for very early mornings chill music.
Next came a set of RTC/Mullard 7308/E188CC NOS I used to enjoy in my former tube preamp in the input stage. Quite agreeable, more extended without any glare or sibilance, but not airy. So far the best in the Gremlin for my headphone/ear/brain interface.
Currently, warming up a set of Russian-made Gold Lions Genelex E88CC circa 2016. More lively vs the Mullard. Extended highs that will be too much for badly recorded '80s or other ‘loudness’ wars masters…but for well recorded vocals and folk, chef’s kiss.
…that’s it for now. I have 10 more sets to roll but many of them were not my favorites in other gear. Who knows, they might just like the little Gremlin
Still a very solid entry-level tube amp buy at $109.
