Do you people think that the 58X, 6XX, 4XX, etc. are still worth buying when considering the ~25% VAT when importing to the EU. This really goes for any American headphones, not just Massdrop ones. The 6XX’s are $220 in the US but $280 in the EU. Do you still think they are the best you can get for the price even when including VAT as well as the $15 shipping fees or would you be better of buying something like the DT 880 or the X2 locally?
I wouldn’t consider any model except the ludicrous bang-for-buck ones, like KSC75X, PortaProX, 58X, stuff like that. Was especially easy to decide when they offered that sweet deal of flat $5 int’l shipping for as many KSC75X as you wanted, on that first run. Don’t know if it’s happened since, and probably never for the larger models. But make sure you also watch out for their EU-specific offerings they’ve started testing out - you can already request the 58X at a lower total expense than from the main offering (total comes out better though the headphones themselves are more expensive, which some see as a bit of a dick move).

The EU collection is pretty limited right now. Only the K7XX and 6XX are within my pricerange. Hopfully they will expand it soon. It makes sense that the EU collection is more expensive since they have to pay VAT when they import too. It’s just a shame that its a $60 markup. It makes the 6XX almost as expensive as the normal 650.
What? No it doesn’t, that’s like not having a special offer at all. The only way you make a worthwhile EU-specific offer is if you’re building them in the EU so they don’t have to incur the expenses of crossing the pond. And AFAIK that’s already happening with the 58X at least: getting made in Romania starting this year (Solderdude mentions in his review on DIYAH how the Romanian ones measure exactly the same as the US ones).
Yip, I got the 58x delivered to my door and paid normal US price in Ireland. The headphone box said made in Romania but the packaging said manufactured in Ireland so not sure if the latter was the reason that customs let it through.
Otherwise I agree its not worth importing being hit by VAT etc.
Have any recommendations for headphones that you can get in Europe?
And also, for some reason, there doesn’t seem to be any Monoprice M560 anywhere on the different EU amazon sites. The only one I can find is on amazon.co.uk which is just Global Store shipped from the US.
Not that I know of no. I’ve just been using Amazon UK and Drop.
I saw Monoprice had specials on the other day (think the M1060c was 10-20% off or something) so if you can find US sites that does that you can make up for the VAT.
