I have been doing a lot of research on trying to look for a planar headphone that I would really enjoy. And from my point of you and with my budget, the Arya Stealth and Aeon 2 Noire really look amazing. I’ve never heard either one in person, but plenty of reviewer’s speak very positive about each one. So I’m just curious if anyone can give a preference between the two and maybe a little bit of a description on why. Any feedback would be most welcome.
What amp/DAC if any will you be using to drive them?
At the moment I own a Schiit Modius. I would like to upgrade that in the future as well.
I haven’t tried the Aeon 2 Noire, but I do own the Arya Stealth. I’ve only had them for a couple weeks, but I love these headphones. Comfortable, and sound amazing. It’s got the spatial appeal of the HD800s but with a fuller, more satisfying low-end.
The Schiit Modius should work just fine for the Arya Stealth, but I have no experience with the other headphone. The Arya Stealth is fairly detailed and airy, but it does scale with amps and DACs to a point. I have tried mine on the Topping L70, Schiit Asgard 3, Schiit Gjallarhorn, and a Burson Soloist 3XP (currently paired with a Schiit Bifrost 2/64), and it sounds a little different on each one.
I also own the HD 800 S and I really enjoy those as well. I’m really curious to know if the either the Arya stealth or the Noire have more of an impact on the lower end but still stay clear with the rest of the sound signature.
What I can say is hifiman if you listen to dynamic music/movies. Aeon if you just really want to listen to detail of music. Both have their purpose but DCA falls short on enjoyable everyday listening.
