Build: light but not Koss light. It feels solid, definitely not rickety or noisy. Very pleased. The hand signed authenticity card is a nice touch knowing someone QCd these, they work perfectly out of the box as expected.
Detail: a lot of detail, more than I expected but also very SMOOTH. Not really shoved in your face detail just very flat and neutral mix without being boring. I hear more texture and breaths in male vocals than I’ve ever heard at this price bracket. Female vocals are back a bit but very nice.
Bass: not what I expected here either. If the track has bass these things will absolutely deliver it, but if the track doesn’t emphasize it, its just smooth and ultra composed. It NEVER gets muddy or takes away from anything else.
Sound stage: not super wide but certainly not the most intimate I’ve ever heard. A very nice width. What it lacks in width it makes up for in depth. It sounds like many many layers, but still stays very cohesive. This is a very intentional headphone.
Overall: I’m very pleased with the price point. They’re not what I expected in the sound signature, and that’s mostly a good thing. There is tons of detail in the treble but it’s certainly not harsh. It will just bite back if you crank the volume due to the dynamics. The dynamics are rendered very well here. Quiet parts are quiet yet very discernable, loud parts come through fast and accurately.
It certainly smears the cheaper stuff I’ve had. It’s maybe not as “fun” as I hoped, but the serious emotional nature in which it reproduces the tracks keeps me coming back for more.
Running these on my Aune stack and male vocals here are SUBLIME. Also while the sound stage may not be huge, the reverb decay is OMG accurate and loooong linear fade out, if that’s what is in the track. If it’s there you will definitely be able to hear it.
The texture in vocals and guitar is so tangible and juicy, really.
Bass quantity isn’t boosted but it’s so accurate, fluid and open. And it will absolutely reach down there when required. Just not as much impact as I’ve ever heard, but it’s sweet as a peach.
Anyone else have comments or impressions on these? I tried the LCD2 years ago and was unimpressed. But these are getting some great reviews and have a very attractive price point.
It’s a really nice headphone for monitoring and mixing, even neutral signature, light and portable, kinda average soundstage and imaging, but great coherent tuning with good detail and presentation
The bass is pretty dang good actually, a bit boosted but that’s not a bad thing. The special part of the lcd1 is the fact that it’s so coherent and refined, it’s just well rounded overall, it just does everything well but nothing incredibly good. It does have a bit of a studio focus but that’s not a bad thing either
