If your in the US the PC 37x for a $100 from massdrop.is really good value for strictly gaming
If he could go massdrop, I think it would have been the 58x all the way imo for me, but I think he wants to look on Amazon
I think they are fairly general purpose imo, and a sound that most would enjoy, I think the ad700x would be a more specific purpose headphone in comparison
The Sennheiser HD 599 SE is only 99 bucks on amazon rn, I imagine its the same as the regular 599 sound wise but black and white color scheme.
They could work for gaming and if you like a warm sound signature you should enjoy them.
But the 58X are better, but they are only on Drop
The DT 770 80 ohm are really good for gaming because they have a V shaped sound with cold mids and proeminent subbass and highs, for music listening depends on if you like such a sound.
Personally I’d get the AKG K361 or K371 as honestly almost every headphone can do gaming decently but not all the headphones can do music good (especially not as good as these)
At the moment currently trying to stick with a product on amazon, thank you for the suggestion though
If you are willing to increase your budget by 20 dollars you can snag a pair of HR 400i’s. I really like my pair. open back, cheap, planar drivers. they can be run balanced if you ever want to go that route. They do have a suspension strap but its is kinda cheap. Build quality on the 2019 revision is leagues better then the previous ones thank god hifiman is not known for stellar QA.
The HD599 SE’s are one of the first pairs I looked at. They seem like a good deal and reviews on youtube are mostly positive when talking about the original price point.
The DT 770’s are out of my price range for both versions. Oddly enough the DT 990’s are in my price range for the 250 ohm (might have changed since last night), but i can’t drive them b/c I don’t have an amp.
How good is the sound stage and imaging on the k371’s? I mostly play fps so I would need something that can replace the virtual 7.1 stereo surround headset I’m currently using
The 371 is pretty good imo, imagining is good, but soundstage is average. The real special sauce of the 371 is the tuning and detail for the price imo. Imaging and soundstage aren’t really stand out for it imo
Firstly, virtual surround is BS all you need is a good pair of headphones with good imaging and soundstage.
Secondly, as M0N said, the K371 have good imaging and average soundstage which means you will be able to hear the audio cues (like footsteps) very well but the soundstage won’t be huge, they are also tuned very flat which means details won’t be covered up by bass or muddiness.
Both the K361 and K371 are very good, so get whichever you can afford, they will treat you well for gaming but even better for music listening!
They might have a bit more bass than I would like for competitive gaming but are pretty solid
The K361 don’t have the bass boost at 20-30hz and have more treble so they would be actually better for gaming, but I don’t think the bass boost of the K371 would affect details or clarity as its very low in frequency.
It’s more on the distraction side of things imo. If you really want a gaming oriented signature I think you want something a bit bass light
Depends on what you play. For story/singleplayer, having some bass for explosions, thunder or roaring engines is nice.
For competetive, it is indeed not something you want.
I think most headphones can cover double duty for casual gaming tbh. Stuff like the ad700x is for more competitive oriented play to me
